Norwegian Journalist Seeks Interview With Rahul Gandhi After Disrupting PM Modi’s Oslo Event

A Norwegian journalist who recently made headlines for disrupting an event involving Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Oslo has now publicly reached out to Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for an interview.

The journalist, identified as Helle Lyng, reportedly interrupted a press interaction during PM Modi’s visit to Norway, leading to a tense exchange with officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Videos from the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking political debate in India and drawing international attention.

According to reports, Lyng questioned the handling of press access and attempted to raise issues during the conference before being stopped by security and MEA personnel. The confrontation quickly became a trending topic online, with supporters and critics offering sharply divided reactions over press freedom, diplomatic protocol, and political transparency.

The controversy took another turn after Rahul Gandhi shared a clip of the incident on social media. Following his post, Lyng publicly contacted the Congress leader and requested an interview.

In her message, she reportedly wrote, “Would you be available for a phone interview… It’d be interesting to hear how you view the visit to Norway.”

As of now, Rahul Gandhi has not publicly responded to the request.

Political analysts say the episode has added a fresh dimension to the ongoing rivalry between India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress party. Rahul Gandhi has frequently criticized the Modi government over issues related to media freedom, democratic institutions, and transparency, while BJP leaders accuse the opposition of attempting to tarnish India’s global image.

The incident has also reignited discussions about media access during high-profile diplomatic events. Supporters of the journalist argue that tough questioning is part of democratic accountability, while critics say disrupting official events violates diplomatic norms and undermines international engagements.

Prime Minister Modi’s Norway visit was aimed at strengthening India’s ties with Nordic nations, focusing on areas such as trade, green energy, technology cooperation, and strategic partnerships in Europe.

Meanwhile, the viral nature of the incident reflects the growing influence of social media in shaping international political narratives, especially when global journalists and political figures interact publicly online.

Neither the Indian government nor Norway’s foreign ministry has issued an extensive official statement regarding the controversy beyond standard event management responses.
