Kanker Police Launches Police Wellness Centre and Computer Lab to Promote Health, Digital Skills and Overall Welfare

Kanker, Chhattisgarh | :
In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the overall welfare, health, mental well-being and professional efficiency of police personnel, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Vivekanand Sinha and Inspector General of Police (IG) Bastar Range Badrinarayan Meena inaugurated a Police Wellness Centre (Police Arogya Kendra) and a Computer Lab at the Police Reserve Centre in Kanker district of North Bastar Kanker, Chhattisgarh.

The initiatives have been introduced with the objective of providing better welfare facilities to police officers, personnel and their family members while simultaneously enhancing their physical and mental well-being, digital capabilities and professional knowledge.

The launch reflects Kanker Police’s continued efforts to ensure that welfare measures remain an integral part of policing, particularly for personnel deployed in sensitive areas and challenging field conditions.

Police Arogya Kendra to Improve Access to Health Services

The newly inaugurated Police Arogya Kendra has been established to make primary healthcare services more accessible and convenient for police personnel and their families.

Considering the demanding nature of police duties, including prolonged field deployments, postings in sensitive areas and continuous operational responsibilities, the centre will focus on timely attention to the health-related needs of police personnel.

Through the facility, police officers and employees will receive necessary health consultations and treatment, while coordination with specialist medical services will be facilitated whenever required.

The initiative is expected to help ensure regular health monitoring and timely medical support for personnel who often face demanding working conditions.

Project Daksh Focuses on Digital Empowerment

Along with healthcare, Kanker Police is also focusing on improving the digital and technological capabilities of its personnel through Project Daksh.

The project has been launched to equip police officers and employees with practical knowledge of computers and modern digital technologies so that they can effectively adapt to increasingly technology-driven policing and administrative processes.

A dedicated computer laboratory has been developed at the Police Reserve Centre, Kanker, to facilitate practical training.

According to the police department, 222 police officers and employees have so far received computer training under Project Daksh.

The initiative is aimed at improving digital literacy, computer proficiency and the ability of personnel to use modern technological tools in their day-to-day official responsibilities.

Police Library Inaugurated for Learning and Professional Development

A Police Library has also been inaugurated at the Police Reserve Centre to promote continuous learning, professional development and knowledge enhancement among police personnel.

The library has been equipped with books and study material covering a wide range of subjects, including departmental and competitive examinations, policing, law, criminal law, general knowledge and current affairs.

The facility is intended to provide police personnel with a conducive environment for study alongside their professional duties.

Officials said the library will encourage personnel to pursue continuous learning and improve their professional knowledge and competencies.

Special Focus on Mental Health and Stress Management

Recognising the importance of mental health in a high-pressure profession such as policing, Kanker Police has placed special emphasis on mental well-being and stress management.

Regular yoga and meditation sessions are being conducted for police officers and employees at the Police Reserve Centre.

In addition, counselling and consultation facilities are being provided with the assistance of psychiatric and mental health specialists to address the psychological and emotional needs of police personnel.

The department stated that 129 police officers and employees have so far received counselling under these initiatives.

The programme seeks to help police personnel manage occupational stress more effectively and maintain better mental and emotional well-being.

Project Karuna Aims to Support Personnel in Overcoming Addiction

Kanker Police has also undertaken a dedicated initiative called Project Karuna to support police employees affected by substance addiction.

Under the project, personnel struggling with addiction are identified and provided with necessary counselling, treatment and support to help them overcome substance dependence and return to a healthier lifestyle.

According to the department, 24 police employees have been successfully helped to overcome addiction so far in 2026 under Project Karuna.

The initiative highlights the department’s focus on the personal welfare and long-term well-being of its personnel rather than limiting welfare measures to routine administrative support.

Focus on Expanding Police Welfare Facilities

The Kanker Police administration has emphasised the effective utilisation and expansion of welfare facilities available to police personnel.

The broader objective is to strengthen the physical health, mental health, morale, efficiency and overall well-being of police officers and employees.

Officials said efforts will continue to identify the needs of police personnel and develop new welfare facilities accordingly. The initiatives are also aimed at creating a healthier, better-trained and more professionally equipped police force capable of effectively meeting the challenges of modern policing.

The inauguration of the Police Arogya Kendra and Computer Lab, along with the Police Library and ongoing initiatives such as Project Daksh and Project Karuna, marks an important step toward a more comprehensive police welfare framework in Kanker district.

Senior Police Officials Present

The inauguration programme was attended by several senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha (IPS), Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Shreeshimal (IPS), Additional Superintendent of Police Yogesh Sahu, SDOP Harish Patil, Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinkeshwari Pinde, Reserve Inspector Govind Verma, Reserve Inspector Deepak Sao, Station House Officer Jitendra Sahu, along with other police officers and personnel.

The initiatives are expected to contribute significantly toward improving the health, morale, digital competency, knowledge and overall quality of life of police personnel and their families while strengthening the operational effectiveness of the Kanker Police.
