UBA Club Conducts Cleanliness Rally and Public Awareness Activities to Promote Responsible Waste Management

Raipur : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur organised a series of activities on September 30, 2026, focusing on cleanliness, civic responsibility, environmental protection and social awareness.

As part of the initiative, the institute’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Club conducted ‘Swachhta Abhiyan 2026’ in Rajim, a historic and religious town in Chhattisgarh. At the same time, NIT Raipur’s literary committee ‘Literati’ organised an essay writing competition on the theme “Swachhta Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cleanliness).

Cleanliness Drive Held in Rajim

The cleanliness campaign in Rajim was aimed at encouraging local residents, devotees and young people to adopt better sanitation practices and responsible waste disposal methods.

The initiative was conducted under the guidance of Dr Sudhakar Pandey, Regional Coordinator, UBA, NIT Raipur.

The programme was attended by Dr Govardhan Bhatt, PI Coordinator; Dr Deepika Agrawal and Dr Shailendra Kumar Tripathi, Faculty In-charges of the UBA Club; Vijay Verma, UBA Assistant, along with a large number of NIT Raipur students.

During the campaign, students participated in shramdaan (voluntary community service) and carried out intensive cleaning of public areas around Rajim.

The participants also interacted with local residents and shopkeepers, urging them to adopt responsible waste management practices. They highlighted the importance of segregating waste, disposing of it at designated locations, avoiding single-use plastic and refraining from littering in public places.

Students Take Out Cleanliness Rally

As part of the campaign, NIT Raipur students also organised a cleanliness awareness rally in Rajim.

Through the rally, students raised awareness about solid waste management, responsible civic behaviour and environmental protection. The activity sought to encourage greater community participation in keeping public spaces clean and maintaining sustainable sanitation practices.

The direct interaction with residents and shopkeepers also provided students with an opportunity to communicate the importance of cleanliness at the community level.

Essay Competition on ‘Swachhta Se Samriddhi’

Alongside the field-level cleanliness campaign, NIT Raipur’s Literati Committee organised an essay writing competition on the theme “Swachhta Se Samriddhi”.

The competition was conducted under the guidance of Dr Y. Vijay Babu and Dr Chetna S. Rajput.

Students from different faculties participated in the competition and expressed their views on the relationship between cleanliness, civic responsibility, environmental sustainability and national development.

Through their essays, participants highlighted the role of a clean environment in building a healthy, sustainable and prosperous society. The competition provided students with a platform to examine cleanliness not only as a sanitation issue but also as an important aspect of responsible citizenship and sustainable development.

Focus on Community Participation and Student Leadership

The two initiatives brought together community engagement, student leadership and intellectual expression around the common objective of promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility.

The Rajim cleanliness campaign provided students with an opportunity to participate directly in community-based activities, while the essay competition encouraged them to reflect on the broader social and environmental significance of cleanliness.

NIT Raipur’s initiatives also reinforced the message that maintaining clean public spaces requires participation from citizens, institutions and local communities.

The institute said the activities reflected the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission and highlighted the importance of collective action and active citizen participation in building a healthier and more prosperous India.
