New Delhi, India : The Ministry of Railways has appointed senior railway officer Naveen Kumar to take additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Braithwaite & Company Limited, a key public sector engineering enterprise linked to India’s railway sector.
According to an official order issued by the ministry, the competent authority has granted ex-post facto approval for the interim arrangement to ensure uninterrupted leadership and administrative continuity at the company.
Naveen Kumar, an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), is currently serving as Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of South Eastern Railway. Along with his existing responsibilities in the railway zone, he will now oversee the functioning of Braithwaite & Company Limited as an additional assignment.
The appointment became effective on January 19, 2026, and will continue for a period of one year or until the appointment of a regular CMD, whichever takes place earlier.
Officials said the move was necessary to maintain stability in the management of the public sector undertaking during the transition period. The Ministry believes that assigning an experienced railway officer to the role will help ensure smooth execution of ongoing projects and operational activities.
Braithwaite & Company Limited, headquartered in Kolkata, is a Government of India enterprise operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways. The company is involved in manufacturing railway wagons, structural engineering products, cranes, foundry items, and infrastructure-related equipment used across India’s rail network and industrial sectors.
Industry observers note that continuity in leadership is especially important for railway-linked public sector enterprises as India continues investing heavily in rail modernization, freight infrastructure, and manufacturing expansion.
The appointment also reflects the Ministry’s practice of assigning additional responsibilities to senior railway officials in situations where leadership transitions are underway at public sector undertakings.
Braithwaite & Company has historically played a significant role in supporting railway infrastructure projects and engineering operations, making effective leadership critical for maintaining project timelines and operational efficiency.
