The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and heatwave conditions across multiple states and Union Territories on Friday, highlighting the possibility of extreme weather events in different parts of the country.
According to the latest forecast, intense rainfall activity is expected to affect parts of Northeast India, South India, and the Andaman region, while several western and central states are likely to continue experiencing severe heatwave conditions.
Heavy Rainfall Warning for Multiple Regions
The IMD stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the following regions:
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Assam
- Meghalaya
- Kerala
- Karnataka
- West Bengal
- Sikkim
- Tamil Nadu
- Puducherry
Meteorologists said the rainfall activity is being driven by moisture-laden winds and favorable atmospheric conditions over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, especially in regions prone to flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.
In the northeastern states, localized flooding and disruption in transportation services may occur if rainfall intensity increases further. Southern states such as Kerala and Karnataka may also witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.
Hailstorm Alert Issued for Karnataka
The IMD has also issued a hailstorm warning for parts of Karnataka. Weather experts warned that isolated areas could experience thunderstorms along with hail and strong winds, potentially causing damage to crops, vehicles, and temporary structures.
Farmers and residents have been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid open areas during severe thunderstorm activity.
Heatwave Conditions Continue Across Western and Central India
While some regions brace for heavy rain, several states across western and central India are expected to remain under intense heatwave conditions.
The IMD has predicted heatwave conditions over:
- Goa
- Madhya Pradesh
- Maharashtra
- Gujarat
- Uttar Pradesh
- Rajasthan
Daytime temperatures in several districts are expected to remain significantly above normal, increasing the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
Health officials have urged people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities whenever possible.
Authorities Urge Public to Stay Alert
Disaster management teams and local administrations in several states have been placed on alert in anticipation of adverse weather conditions. Citizens are being encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
The IMD regularly updates its forecasts as weather systems evolve and has advised residents, travelers, and farmers to remain prepared for rapidly changing conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours.
