In a major push toward sustainable industrial operations, Hindustan Zinc Limited has launched the largest electric bus fleet in the state of Rajasthan. The initiative, introduced at its Zinc Smelter facility in Udaipur (Debari), is designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions while modernizing employee transportation.
The company has partnered with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd. to deploy a total of 41 electric buses in a phased manner across its Rajasthan operations. These buses will replace the existing diesel-powered fleet used for daily employee commuting.
Major Step Toward Decarbonization
According to company estimates, the transition to electric mobility is expected to mitigate more than 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions over the contract period. This move aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s broader environmental strategy, which includes:
- Reducing Scope 3 emissions by 25%
- Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050
By integrating clean energy solutions into employee transportation, the company is extending its sustainability efforts beyond core production processes.
Transforming Industrial Mobility
The rollout reflects a growing trend among large industrial players to adopt cleaner mobility solutions as part of their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitments. Hindustan Zinc emphasized that sustainability is no longer limited to mining and metal production but is being embedded into everyday operational practices.
The electric buses are expected to not only reduce emissions but also improve energy efficiency and lower long-term operational costs, while providing a quieter and cleaner commuting experience for employees.
About the Company
