Bharat Forge’s KSSL Partners with AM General to Develop Next-Generation Mounted Artillery Systems for Global Markets

Paris, June 18, 2026: Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), the wholly owned defense subsidiary of Bharat Forge Limited, has entered into a strategic partnership with AM General, a leading U.S.-based military vehicle manufacturer, to jointly develop and market next-generation 155mm mounted artillery gun systems for armed forces worldwide.

The agreement was signed during the prestigious Eurosatory 2026 International Defense and Security Exhibition in Paris, underscoring the growing global recognition of India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities.

Partnership to Deliver Advanced Mobile Artillery Solutions

Under the collaboration, KSSL and AM General will combine their technological expertise to offer highly mobile, combat-proven, and next-generation mounted artillery systems designed to meet the evolving operational requirements of modern militaries.

The companies aim to provide advanced artillery platforms capable of operating effectively across challenging terrains, extreme weather conditions, and high-intensity combat environments, offering enhanced mobility, firepower, and rapid deployment capabilities.

Proposal Submitted for U.S. Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon Program

As part of the partnership, AM General has submitted a proposal to participate in the U.S. Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) Program, one of the military’s key modernization initiatives.

The proposal is based on KSSL’s Mounted Artillery Gun (MArG) platform architecture and envisions the development of a 155mm Mobile Tactical Cannon capable of meeting the U.S. Army’s future battlefield requirements.

If selected, the companies expect to begin system deliveries in 2027, marking a significant opportunity for Indian defense technology in one of the world’s largest defense markets.

Advanced Features of the MArG Artillery Platform

The Mounted Artillery Gun (MArG) represents one of KSSL’s flagship indigenous artillery systems and incorporates several advanced technologies, including:

  • 52-caliber 155mm cannon
  • Patented Soft Recoil Technology (SRT)
  • Automated load-assist system
  • Advanced all-weather digital fire control system
  • High mobility for rapid deployment

The artillery platform is capable of firing standard high-explosive projectiles at ranges exceeding 40 kilometers while carrying more than 20 projectiles and propellant charges onboard, enabling sustained battlefield operations.

Innovative Soft Recoil Technology

A key feature of the MArG platform is its proprietary Soft Recoil Technology (SRT), which significantly reduces recoil forces during firing.

According to the company, this innovative technology allows the artillery system to be mounted on a lighter tactical vehicle, reduces structural stress on the platform, enhances operational stability, and improves overall mobility without compromising firepower.

Leadership Highlights Strategic Collaboration

Commenting on the partnership, Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, said the collaboration reflects the growing international confidence in KSSL’s indigenous artillery capabilities and reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering advanced, world-class defense solutions for global customers.

John Chadbourne, President and Chief Executive Officer of AM General, stated that the partnership combines AM General’s expertise in military mobility platforms with KSSL’s advanced artillery technologies, enabling both companies to provide highly capable and innovative solutions for allied armed forces.

Strengthening India’s Global Defense Presence

Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) serves as the dedicated defense arm of the Kalyani Group and manufactures a broad portfolio of defense products, including:

  • Artillery systems
  • Armored vehicles
  • Ammunition
  • Small arms
