Alleged Card Gambling Continues in Villages Under Hasod Police Station; Call for Heightened Vigilance During Diwali

Sakti: Reports of alleged card gambling, locally known as ‘kaat patti’, have surfaced in rural areas under the Hasod police station limits in Sakti district, prompting concerns among residents ahead of the Diwali festival.

According to local information, the activity of individuals organising and participating in gambling has increased in some villages in the region in recent days. Diwali, traditionally associated with joy, brotherhood and social harmony, has heightened unease among villagers over the reported rise in such activities.

Residents fear that the addiction to gambling could push several families into financial difficulties. Disputes arising from monetary losses, they say, may also disturb the social atmosphere in the villages. There is additional apprehension that financial losses linked to gambling could lead some individuals towards other undesirable activities, although any connection to theft or other crimes can only be established through proper investigation of specific cases.

Demand for Increased Police Surveillance

In view of the upcoming Diwali celebrations, there is a growing demand for enhanced police patrolling and monitoring in the villages under the Hasod police station. Residents have urged authorities to investigate any locations where illegal gambling may be taking place and to take action in accordance with the law. Such measures, they believe, would help curb illegal activities and maintain peace and law and order in the rural areas.

It remains to be seen what steps the Hasod police take regarding the reported gambling activities and what action is initiated to check such practices during the festival period.
