RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH: Police in Raipur’s Aamanaka police station area have arrested two alleged burglars in connection with a house burglary and recovered gold and silver jewellery and cash worth approximately ₹60 lakh, officials said on Saturday.
The accused allegedly broke into an unoccupied house at Arihant Complex and stole valuables after the family had left the residence.
Burglary Reported on July 28
According to Crime and Cyber DCP Smritik Rajanala, complainant Ravikant Gupta, a resident of Arihant Nagar, Sarona, had reported the theft at Aamanaka police station.
Gupta reportedly said that he had locked his house and left with his family on July 28. During their absence, the accused allegedly broke the lock, entered the house and forced open a locker before fleeing with gold and silver jewellery and cash.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
CCTV and Technical Evidence Helped Police
Investigators examined CCTV footage and technical evidence and also developed information through local informants.
Based on the suspected method used in the burglary, police detained Karan Tandi alias Kede and Lakshmi Narayan Goswami alias Monty for questioning.
During interrogation, the two allegedly confessed to their involvement in the burglary.
Police subsequently recovered the stolen gold and silver jewellery and cash based on information provided by the accused.
Both Accused Have Previous Cases
Police said both accused had previously been jailed in cases involving theft and assault.
Cases related to theft and assault had earlier been registered against them at Pandri police station, according to investigators.
Allegedly Stole Copper Wires From Medical College
Police also linked the two accused to another theft reported in the Dube Colony area under Pandri police station.
On July 12, they allegedly stole copper wires from air-conditioning equipment installed on the campus of Balaji Medical College. Police said the two had been absconding since that incident.
Karan Tandi is reportedly a resident of Mowa, while Lakshmi Narayan Goswami lives in Mahalaxmi Nagar under Pandri police station.
The police investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused were involved in other theft cases in the city.
