SECI and CEEW Sign MoU to Strengthen Renewable Energy Ecosystem and Accelerate India’s Clean Energy Transition

New Delhi |: In a significant step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy sector, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing innovative business models, strengthening clean power markets, and supporting the country’s long-term energy transition goals.

The strategic partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies, promote sustainable power procurement, and create a more resilient and efficient renewable energy ecosystem through innovation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Leadership

The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Shri Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI, and Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CEEW.

The agreement was formally signed by Shri Prashant Soni, Deputy General Manager, SECI, and Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, in the presence of Shri Sivakumar V. Vepakomma, Director (Power Systems), SECI.

The signing marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between one of India’s leading renewable energy implementation agencies and a globally recognized public policy research institution working on energy, environment, and sustainable development.

Focus Areas of the Collaboration

Under the partnership, SECI and CEEW will jointly work on several strategic initiatives designed to strengthen India’s clean energy landscape.

The collaboration will focus on:

  • Developing future-ready renewable energy business models
  • Strengthening innovative power procurement mechanisms
  • Promoting competitive and efficient clean energy markets
  • Supporting innovation in renewable energy deployment
  • Enhancing knowledge sharing and policy research
  • Building institutional and technical capacity across the energy sector
  • Facilitating sustainable and market-driven energy solutions

The partnership seeks to address emerging challenges in India’s rapidly evolving energy sector while creating new opportunities for investment and technological advancement.

Supporting India’s Energy Transition

India has set ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity generation mix and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070. As renewable energy capacity continues to expand, there is an increasing need for innovative market mechanisms, efficient procurement models, and policy-driven solutions that ensure long-term sustainability.

The collaboration between SECI and CEEW is expected to contribute significantly to these national objectives by facilitating research-based policy inputs and developing scalable business models that can accelerate renewable energy deployment across the country.

Driving Innovation and Market Development

A major objective of the partnership is to strengthen the clean power market by encouraging innovative approaches to energy procurement and improving market efficiency.

The two organizations will collaborate on designing future-oriented solutions that enhance the integration of renewable energy into India’s power system while supporting greater participation from public and private sector stakeholders.

The partnership will also encourage capacity building through technical expertise, policy dialogue, and knowledge exchange, enabling institutions and industry participants to adapt to the rapidly changing clean energy landscape.

Boosting Sustainable Development

Officials believe the collaboration will help create a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable renewable energy ecosystem that aligns with India’s broader climate commitments.

By combining SECI’s expertise in implementing large-scale renewable energy projects with CEEW’s research and policy capabilities, the partnership is expected to generate practical solutions that support energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in the clean energy sector.

A Step Toward a Greener Future

The SECI–CEEW MoU represents an important milestone in India’s journey toward a low-carbon economy. Through collaborative research, innovative business models, advanced market mechanisms, and institutional capacity building, both organizations aim to accelerate the country’s transition to clean, affordable, and sustainable energy.

The initiative is expected to play a vital role in advancing India’s long-term renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development goals while supporting the creation of a robust and future-ready clean power market.
