Mumbai / Guwahati, India | July 28, 2026: In response to the devastating floods that have severely affected Upper Assam, Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral relief and recovery initiative aimed at supporting thousands of families impacted by the disaster.
Working in close coordination with government authorities, district administrations, and local stakeholders, the Foundation plans to provide critical humanitarian assistance to at least 10,000 flood-affected families in the worst-hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.
Floods Devastate Upper Assam
The floods, triggered by intense monsoon rainfall and flash flooding, have caused widespread destruction across the region.
According to officials:
- More than 500,000 people have been affected.
- Homes and public infrastructure have suffered extensive damage.
- Livelihoods, livestock, and essential public services have been severely disrupted.

Before launching relief efforts, Reliance Foundation’s Disaster Management professionals conducted rapid on-ground needs assessments in consultation with:

In addition, the Foundation is distributing:

Emergency Shelter for Displaced Families
Thousands of people have been displaced after floodwaters damaged or destroyed homes.

- Mosquito nets

- Bedding materials

Livestock Protection and Veterinary Care
Recognizing that livestock are a critical source of income for rural households, Reliance Foundation has partnered with Vantara to protect affected animals.
A dedicated 39-member Vantara team has been deployed to provide:
- Veterinary treatment
- Livestock rescue assistance
- Care for community animals
- Feed support for approximately 4,000 livestock impacted by the floods
Officials say protecting livestock is essential for preserving rural livelihoods and supporting long-term recovery.
