DRDO Awards PTC Industries Major Design & Development Contract for Titanium Cradle of India’s Light Weight Tank

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh | In a significant boost to India’s defense self-reliance and the “Make in India” initiative, PTC Industries Limited has secured a prestigious Design and Development Order from the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), a premier laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), for the Titanium Cradle of the 105mm Indian Light Weight Tank.

The order marks a major milestone for PTC Industries, as it is the company’s first significant contract involving the complete design, development, testing, and manufacturing of a critical defense component, moving beyond its traditional role as a manufacturing partner.

Major Milestone for Indigenous Defense Manufacturing

Under the contract, PTC Industries will be responsible for the end-to-end design, engineering, testing, validation, and production of the Titanium Cradle, a mission-critical component that plays a vital role in the performance and safety of the Indian Light Weight Tank.

This achievement highlights the growing confidence of DRDO in India’s private-sector defense manufacturers and reinforces the country’s commitment to developing advanced military technologies through indigenous capabilities.

Key Highlights of the Order

  • Awarding Agency: Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), DRDO
  • Project: Titanium Cradle for the 105mm Indian Light Weight Tank
  • Scope of Work: Complete design, development, testing, qualification, and manufacturing
  • Significance: PTC Industries assumes full design responsibility in addition to manufacturing

What is the Titanium Cradle?

The Titanium Cradle is one of the most critical structural assemblies of a tank’s weapon system. It supports the main gun barrel, absorbs and manages recoil forces generated during firing, and ensures the smooth, safe, and accurate operation of the tank’s turret.

The use of Titanium offers several operational advantages:

  • Significant weight reduction compared to conventional steel structures.
  • Higher strength-to-weight ratio for improved durability.
  • Enhanced mobility and maneuverability.
  • Better performance in high-altitude and mountainous terrain.
  • Improved operational efficiency and survivability of the Light Weight Tank.

These advantages are particularly important for the Indian Army, which requires agile armored platforms capable of operating in challenging border regions and high-altitude environments.

Strengthening PTC ONE™ – From Melt to Mission™

The order further strengthens PTC Industries’ integrated manufacturing platform, PTC ONE™ – From Melt to Mission™, which enables the company to deliver advanced engineering solutions from raw material processing to finished mission-ready components.

By taking responsibility for both design and manufacturing, PTC Industries moves higher in India’s defense supply chain and positions itself as a strategic technology partner for future indigenous defense programs.

Chairman’s Statement

Commenting on the achievement, Sachin Agarwal, Chairman & Managing Director of PTC Industries, said:

“This Design and Development Order from ARDE, DRDO represents a significant milestone for PTC Industries. It reflects the confidence placed in our engineering excellence and advanced manufacturing capabilities. We are proud to contribute to India’s indigenous defense programs and support the nation’s vision of self-reliance in critical defense technologies.”

Strategic Importance for India’s Defense Sector

The contract is expected to have far-reaching implications for India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem by:

  • Strengthening indigenous capabilities in advanced Titanium-based defense components.
  • Supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in strategic defense technologies.
  • Creating opportunities for lightweight armored platforms, artillery systems, and future land combat vehicles.
  • Demonstrating India’s increasing expertise in the design and development of mission-critical defense systems.
  • Encouraging greater participation of the private sector in high-value defense research and production.

Expansion in Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor

PTC Industries is also rapidly expanding its advanced manufacturing infrastructure within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, one of India’s flagship defense manufacturing hubs. The expansion is expected to further strengthen the company’s capabilities in producing high-performance Titanium and superalloy components for aerospace, defense, and strategic sectors.

With this landmark order from DRDO, PTC Industries takes a decisive step toward becoming a leading Indian developer of advanced defense technologies, reinforcing the nation’s pursuit of self-reliance, technological innovation, and next-generation military capability.
