Bhopal, : The Government of Madhya Pradesh’s Energy Department has officially extended the last date for submitting applications for the post of Chairperson of the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC). The revised deadline is now July 21, 2026, providing eligible candidates with additional time to apply for one of the state’s most significant regulatory positions in the power sector.
The recruitment process was originally announced through a vacancy circular dated May 5, 2026, and the advertisement was published on May 6, 2026, in leading newspapers, including The Indian Express (New Delhi edition) and Dainik Bhaskar (Bhopal and Indore editions). The initial deadline for submitting applications was June 19, 2026.
According to the latest official notification issued by Shri V.K. Gaur, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Energy Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the application deadline has now been extended until July 21, 2026.
Fresh Applications Mandatory for Earlier Applicants
The Energy Department has issued an important clarification for candidates who had applied under the previous Vacancy Circular dated August 13, 2024, including its subsequent extensions.
Since that recruitment process was officially cancelled through a public notice dated April 13, 2026, all previous applications stand invalid. Candidates who had applied earlier must submit a fresh application under the current recruitment notification if they wish to be considered for the position.
Eligibility Criteria Under the Electricity Act, 2003
The appointment will be made in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Under Section 84(1) of the Act, the applicant must be a person of exceptional ability, integrity, and professional standing, with adequate knowledge and proven expertise in one or more of the following fields:
- Engineering
- Finance
- Commerce
- Economics
- Law
- Management
The selected candidate should also possess the ability to handle complex regulatory and administrative matters related to the electricity sector.
Tenure and Service Conditions
As prescribed under Section 89(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, the selected Chairperson will hold office for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until attaining the age of 65 years, whichever occurs earlier.
The salary, allowances, and other service conditions will be governed by Section 89 of the Electricity Act, 2003, read with the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Salary, Allowances and Other Service Conditions of the Chairperson and Members) Rules, 2000.
Application Process for Serving Employees
Candidates currently employed in government departments, public sector organizations, autonomous bodies, or private institutions must submit their applications through the proper channel.
The forwarding authority must include:
- No Objection Certificate (NOC)
- Annual Confidential Report (ACR) gradings for the last five years
- Forwarding recommendation
Applicants may also send an advance copy of their application directly to the department to avoid delays.

Applicants must submit a complete application package containing the following documents:
- Annexure-I: Signed statutory declaration under Section 85(5) of the Electricity Act, 2003, confirming that the applicant has no financial or personal interest that could create a conflict while discharging official responsibilities.
- Annexure-II: Detailed bio-data, including educational qualifications, age, residential and official addresses, and professional experience.
- Resignation Undertaking: A written commitment stating that the candidate will resign from any existing office or position upon selection.
- Proof of Date of Birth: Self-attested copy of PAN Card, Passport, or any government-issued identity document.
- Two Professional Referees: Complete names, addresses, and contact details.
