‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ Case Reaches Chhattisgarh: Fugitive Gangster Allegedly Hid in Ambikapur for 13 Years Under Bus Operator’s Protection

AMBIKAPUR, Chhattisgarh: A sensational development has emerged in a decades-old Wasseypur murder case, revealing an alleged Chhattisgarh connection that could rival the storyline of the famous crime saga Gangs of Wasseypur. A fugitive gangster wanted in the 2001 double murder case allegedly lived in Ambikapur for nearly 13 years with the support of local associates, according to police.

The accused, Sabir Alam, who had been declared a proclaimed offender by a Jharkhand court, is accused of escaping judicial custody years ago and secretly residing in Mobinpura, Ambikapur, in Surguja district since 2013.

Bus Operator Accused of Sheltering Fugitive

The case has drawn significant attention after Surguja Police registered a criminal case against Vaidul Khan, the operator of Rajhans Bus Service, accusing him of allegedly providing shelter, concealing the identity of the fugitive, and helping him stay in Ambikapur for over a decade.

Police allege that Sabir Alam was not only living in the city but was also involved in multiple business ventures in partnership with Vaidul Khan, allowing him to blend into society while evading law enforcement.

Jharkhand Police Operation Exposed the Hideout

The alleged hideout came to light after a team from Jharkhand Police arrived in Ambikapur about six days ago to arrest Sabir Alam. According to reports, the officers were dressed in civilian clothes, leading local residents to question and stop them.

During the confusion, the accused reportedly managed to escape, prompting a detailed investigation by Surguja Police.

The subsequent inquiry confirmed that the man living in Mobinpura was indeed the same fugitive wanted in the Wasseypur double murder case and had been absconding after fleeing from court custody years earlier.

Background of the Wasseypur Murder Case

The case dates back to October 18, 2001, when the mother and maternal aunt of coal mafia don Fahim Khan were shot dead in Wasseypur, then part of Bihar and now located in Jharkhand.

Following the murders, police arrested Sabir Alam, his elder brother, and several other accused. However, while the legal proceedings were underway, Sabir Alam escaped from court custody and remained on the run.

A Jharkhand court later declared him a proclaimed offender and initiated property attachment proceedings, but despite extensive efforts, law enforcement agencies failed to trace him for years.

Police Register Case Against Those Who Allegedly Helped Him

After verifying the facts, Surguja Police registered a criminal case against Vaidul Khan and several other individuals for allegedly harboring a convicted life imprisonment accused, concealing his identity, and assisting him in avoiding arrest.

Official Statement

Additional Superintendent of Police Amolak Singh Dhillon confirmed the action, stating:

A criminal case has been registered at Kotwali Police Station against accused Vaidul Khan of Mobinpura, Ambikapur. It was found that he allegedly helped conceal the identity of a person sentenced to life imprisonment and provided him shelter. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Investigation Continues

Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine who else may have assisted Sabir Alam, whether he obtained fake identity documents, and the full extent of the business and financial network that allegedly enabled him to remain hidden for more than a decade.

The case has once again brought national attention to the long-running Wasseypur crime network, with investigators now examining its alleged links extending beyond Jharkhand into Chhattisgarh.
