REC Limited Strengthens Board with Appointment of Two Independent Directors


New Delhi, : REC Limited, a Maharatna Public Sector Enterprise (PSE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has announced the appointment of Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta and Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi as Part-time Non-Official (Independent) Directors on its Board. The appointments were made following an official order issued by the Ministry of Power and are aimed at further strengthening the company’s corporate governance and strategic oversight.

According to the company’s regulatory filing made under the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, both appointments became effective on June 22, 2026.

Three-Month Tenure

The Ministry has appointed both Independent Directors for an initial period of three months, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier. REC stated that both directors have officially assumed charge and will contribute to the company’s governance, policy oversight, and long-term strategic direction.

The company also confirmed that neither Dr. Gupta nor Dr. Ghayathri Devi has been debarred by SEBI or any other regulatory authority from serving as a director on the board of any listed company.

Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta is a distinguished environmentalist, philanthropist, and governance expert with decades of experience in environmental sustainability, industrial regulation, and MSME development.

His academic credentials include M.Sc. in Environmental Science, MBA, MA, LLB, and PhD, along with specialized professional studies completed at IIT Roorkee and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gupta has served in numerous leadership and advisory positions related to environmental protection, pollution control, industrial development, and public policy. He currently also serves as an Independent Director on the Board of NTPC Limited, India’s largest power generation company.

Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi brings extensive experience in healthcare, public administration, education, and governance.

A qualified medical practitioner, she possesses additional expertise in cosmetology and hospital management. Over the years, she has held several important public positions, including serving as a Member of the State Women’s Commission, an MLA, and an advisor in various government ministries.

Like Dr. Gupta, she also serves as an Independent Director on the Board of NTPC Limited, bringing valuable governance and policy experience to REC’s Board.
