BREAKING: Mungeli Municipality Launches Major Flood Protection Work on Agar River Following Young Councillor’s Demand

Mungeli, Chhattisgarh: In a significant step toward flood prevention and public safety, the Mungeli Municipal Council has initiated work to reduce the risk of flooding along the Agar River. The decision comes after a young municipal councillor strongly urged the civic administration to take immediate action to protect nearby residential areas from potential flood damage.

According to local officials, the project focuses on strengthening riverbanks, clearing obstructions, improving water flow, and carrying out preventive measures designed to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. The initiative is expected to enhance the river’s capacity to safely carry excess water and minimize the chances of overflow.

The councillor had reportedly raised concerns over the increasing flood threat posed by rising water levels in the Agar River during periods of intense rainfall. Residents living near the river had also expressed worries about waterlogging, property damage, and risks to public safety if timely action was not taken.

Responding to these concerns, the Municipal Council approved the necessary work and deployed teams to begin the project. Civic authorities stated that the operation is part of a broader disaster preparedness strategy aimed at protecting lives, homes, roads, and public infrastructure before the peak monsoon arrives.

Officials emphasized that preventive action is more effective than responding after floods occur. They added that continuous monitoring of the river, regular maintenance, and timely infrastructure improvements will help strengthen the city’s resilience against extreme weather conditions.

Local residents have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely and positive move. Many believe the project will significantly reduce the flood risk, improve drainage, and provide greater security for families living in vulnerable areas.

The municipal administration has assured the public that the flood protection work will be carried out on priority and completed as quickly as possible, with a strong focus on ensuring public safety, environmental protection, and sustainable urban infrastructure.
