Tribal Outreach Campaign Expands Government Services in Remote Areas of Chhattisgarh

A major tribal welfare outreach initiative aimed at improving access to public services in remote indigenous regions concluded successfully this week in Dhamtari, with officials reporting increased awareness, faster grievance resolution, and expanded healthcare access in tribal communities.

The week-long campaign, titled “Jan Bhagidari Sabse Door, Sabse Pehle” (“Public Participation: Farthest First”), was organized from May 18 to May 25, 2026, under the direction of India’s Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Campaign Focused on Remote Tribal Settlements

The initiative was conducted under the Prime Minister’s Tribal Justice Mega Campaign, popularly known as PM-JANMAN, and targeted some of the most remote and vulnerable tribal settlements in the district.

According to district officials, the campaign covered:

  • 133 habitations across 121 villages identified under the PM-JANMAN initiative
  • 108 villages under the “Dharti Aaba Tribal Village Excellence Campaign”

The primary objective was to ensure that government welfare schemes and essential public services reached Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and isolated tribal populations living in remote forest and rural regions.

Special Public Hearings Held in Tribal Areas

As part of the campaign, special grievance-redressal programs were organized between May 21 and May 23 at Adi Seva Kendras, community service centers established under the “Adi Karmayogi” initiative.

Officials said local residents were able to directly present concerns related to:

  • Ration cards
  • Pension benefits
  • Employment under the rural job guarantee scheme (MGNREGA)
  • Other welfare-related issues

Authorities resolved several cases on the spot, including:

  • 50 ration card applications
  • 20 pension-related cases
  • 20 MGNREGA matters

Healthcare and Welfare Services Delivered Door-to-Door

Mobile medical units and healthcare teams traveled to tribal villages during the campaign to provide health screenings and awareness services.

According to district administration data, the outreach effort resulted in:

  • 315 Aadhaar identity cards issued
  • 250 Ayushman health insurance cards distributed
  • 100 Jan Dhan bank accounts opened
  • 150 beneficiaries enrolled in the Jeevan Jyoti insurance scheme
  • 500 people screened for sickle cell disease and tuberculosis

Officials also said additional pension and ration-card related cases were resolved during field camps.

Awareness Programs and Cultural Events Organized

Alongside welfare services, authorities conducted public-awareness drives and field inspections to educate villagers about government programs and healthcare benefits.

The “Janjatiya Garima Utsav” (Tribal Pride Festival), organized as part of the campaign, showcased the rich cultural heritage, traditions, folk arts, and indigenous identity of tribal communities in the region.

The event witnessed active participation from:

  • Tribal community members
  • Local elected representatives
  • Government officials and employees
  • Non-governmental organizations
  • Media representatives
  • Members of the Kamar tribe, one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in Chhattisgarh

District Administration Emphasizes Inclusive Development

District Collector Abinash Mishra thanked officials, volunteers, civil society groups, and citizens for their contribution to the successful implementation of the campaign.

He stated that coordinated efforts and public participation played a key role in extending government services to underserved tribal communities.

Mishra also praised the teams involved in the campaign, saying the event became an important platform for highlighting the culture, traditions, and dignity of tribal society while strengthening access to welfare programs.

Push for 100 Percent Coverage of Welfare Schemes

District authorities said special emphasis is being placed on ensuring full saturation of flagship government schemes among tribal and PVTG families.

Officials added that the administration will continue efforts to connect remote communities with healthcare, social security programs, financial inclusion services, and livelihood support initiatives in the coming months.

The campaign is being viewed as part of a broader effort by the government to improve infrastructure, welfare access, and social inclusion in tribal-dominated areas of central India.
