SECL Hosts Third Coal India HR/IR Conclave “Utkarsh 2026,” Focuses on Workforce Transformation


Bilaspur, India: The third Coal India HR/IR Conclave, titled “Utkarsh 2026,” was formally inaugurated on April 10, 2026, under the hosting of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). The two-day event is being held at Vasant Club, Vasant Vihar, bringing together senior human resources and industrial relations professionals from Coal India Limited and its subsidiary companies.

The conclave aims to provide a collaborative platform for HR leaders to deliberate on key issues related to human resource management and industrial relations, fostering innovation and best practices across the organization.

Leadership Emphasizes Workforce as Core Strength

Addressing the inaugural session virtually, Coal India Chairman B. Sairam highlighted the strategic importance of coal in powering the nation and emphasized that employees remain the organization’s greatest asset. He noted that Coal India is observing this year under the theme “Reform, Perform, Transform,” stressing that the workforce will play a crucial role in achieving this vision.

Welcoming the delegates, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan expressed pride in hosting the prestigious event. He reiterated that employees are the backbone of any institution and emphasized the need for continuous efforts toward their development and welfare.

Organizational Identity and Integrity Highlighted

In a special address, Coal India’s Chief Vigilance Officer Brijesh Kumar Tripathi described Coal India as more than just an organization—calling it an identity. He remarked, “Only the best succeed—those who do are true Coal Indians,” encouraging a sense of pride among employees.

Keynote Focuses on Communication and Empathy

Delivering the keynote address, Director (HR) at Coal India Dr. Vinay Ranjan spoke about the significant transformation the company has undergone since its inception. He emphasized the importance of strengthening communication and empathy in the workplace, noting that these elements are essential for achieving improved outcomes and meeting stakeholder expectations effectively.

Participation and Knowledge Sharing

The inaugural session was attended by Directors (HR) from all Coal India subsidiaries, SECL board members, and other senior officials. The conclave has drawn participation from over 100 HR professionals across the Coal India ecosystem.

The event also features presentations from HR teams of subsidiary companies showcasing innovative practices. Over the two days, renowned HR experts from across the country will conduct multiple sessions, sharing insights and practical knowledge aimed at equipping participants with modern HR strategies and perspectives.
