QatarEnergy Declares Force Majeure; Petronet LNG Alerts GAIL, IOC and BPCL Over Potential Gas Supply Disruptions

New Delhi : India’s largest liquefied natural gas importer, Petronet LNG Limited, has received a Force Majeure notice from its long-term supplier QatarEnergy, raising concerns about possible disruptions in LNG supplies to India.

In response, Petronet LNG has issued corresponding Force Majeure notices to its key gas off-takers under existing Gas Sale and Purchase Agreements. The companies notified include GAIL (India) Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

The development was formally disclosed to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.

Petronet LNG said the Force Majeure event remains ongoing, and at this stage the company is unable to determine the full financial or operational impact on its LNG supplies. The firm added that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates to stock exchanges as more information becomes available.

Earlier, on March 3, 2026, the company had already cautioned investors that it might receive a Force Majeure notice from QatarEnergy.

Petronet LNG operates two key LNG import terminals in India — one in Dahej and another in Kochi — both of which play a critical role in India’s natural gas supply network.

Industry analysts say any prolonged disruption in LNG supply could impact India’s gas distribution companies, power plants, and industrial users, potentially tightening supply in the domestic market.
