Central Railway Earns ₹404.72 Crore From Scrap Sales in FY 2025–26

New Delhi  — Central Railway has recorded revenue of ₹404.72 crore (approximately $49 million) from the sale of scrap during the financial year 2025–26, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing “Zero Scrap” initiative aimed at improving resource efficiency and financial sustainability.

As of February 11, 2026, scrap sales registered a growth of about 2.81 percent compared to ₹393.65 crore earned during the same period in the previous financial year (FY 2024–25), reflecting stronger operational execution and systematic asset disposal.

Systematic Scrap Disposal Drives Growth

The revenue surge was achieved through the structured disposal of multiple categories of obsolete and released materials, including:

  • Rail permanent-way scrap: 40,177 metric tons
  • Sleepers: 255,318 units
  • Ferrous scrap: 25,790 metric tons
  • Non-ferrous scrap: 3,325 metric tons
  • Rolling stock: 47 locomotives, 70 coaches, and 110 wagons

According to officials, the Central Railway’s Stores Department conducted intensive, well-coordinated drives to identify and clear scrap from remote and scattered locations. These included the Kurla Cutting Yard, Traction Machine Workshop in Nashik, Parel Workshop, Manmad Workshop, and facilities across all five divisions of the railway zone.

Bhusawal Division Leads Performance

Among the divisions, the Bhusawal Division emerged as the top performer, generating the highest scrap revenue of ₹97.72 crore as of February 11, 2026.

Advancing the “Zero Scrap” Mission

Railway officials said the achievement highlights Central Railway’s sustained commitment to the “Zero Scrap” mission, which focuses on converting idle assets into revenue-generating resources while promoting financial discipline, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts within Indian Railways to modernize asset management practices, reduce waste, and unlock value from legacy infrastructure.
