Raipur: In a significant and inclusive decision, the Chhattisgarh government has granted Muslim government employees permission to leave work one hour early during the holy month of Ramadan. The order has been issued in view of the religious practices observed during the fasting month.
According to the directive released by the General Administration Department of the state government, the facility will be applicable to Muslim employees working in government and semi-government offices across Chhattisgarh. The arrangement will remain in force from the beginning of Ramadan until its conclusion, allowing employees to fulfill their religious obligations with ease.

Ramadan, regarded as the holiest month in Islam, began on February 19, 2026. During this period, Muslims observe fasting from sunrise to sunset, engage in prayers, and offer special nightly prayers known as Taraweeh. Since Iftar—the breaking of the fast—takes place in the evening, early leave from offices helps employees manage both professional and religious responsibilities effectively.
Welcoming the decision, Salim Raj, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board, expressed gratitude to the state government. He described the move as a commendable step toward respecting religious faith and promoting social harmony.
He further stated that under the leadership of Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chhattisgarh government has consistently shown respect for all religions, communities, and traditions. The decision, he added, reflects the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” (Together with All, Development for All, Trust of All).
The move has been widely seen as an example of administrative sensitivity and social inclusiveness, reinforcing the state’s commitment to maintaining communal harmony while ensuring smooth governance.
The early-leave provision will remain effective throughout the month of Ramadan, helping Muslim employees strike a balance between their official duties and religious observances.
