Major Breakthrough in Bilaspur Jewelry Heist: Four Accused Arrested After Short Encounter in Uttar Pradesh


Bilaspur: In a major success for law enforcement, police have cracked the ₹3.35 crore jewelry robbery case that took place in Bilaspur’s Sarkanda police station area. The accused were arrested following a swift, coordinated operation that extended into Mirzapur, where a brief encounter occurred during a joint operation with Uttar Pradesh Police.

One Accused Injured in Police Encounter

During a vehicle chase in Mirzapur, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory action, one accused sustained a bullet injury to the leg, while the remaining suspects surrendered on the spot. The injured accused has been hospitalized and is under police custody. A total of four accused have been arrested.

Police Swung Into ‘Get-Set-Go’ Mode After the Robbery

Immediately after the robbery, Bilaspur Police activated a “get-set-go” strategy. Ten special investigation teams were formed to probe the case from multiple angles. Beat officers were mobilized at the ground level to collect local intelligence and track suspect movements.

The recovery of the robbed vehicle near Gram Urtum gave crucial momentum to the investigation.

High-Tech Surveillance Played a Key Role

Police analyzed hundreds of CCTV footage clips from city and peripheral areas. Advanced technical methods were deployed, including:

  • Identification of suspicious phone numbers

Stolen Vehicles Used in the Crime

The investigation revealed that all vehicles used in the robbery were stolen:

  • The motorcycle involved was stolen from Mainpat on February 13
  • A white Eco van was stolen a day before the incident from Akaltara police station limits

CCTV footage further showed the accused tailing the jeweler in a Scorpio SUV before executing the robbery and fleeing.

Despite being on leave, Rajnesh Singh, SSP of Bilaspur, remained in constant touch with senior officers and closely monitored the investigation. Clear task allocation, strong inter-team coordination, and decisive leadership ensured the operation remained effective. IG-level supervision was also maintained, while district-level execution was led under the SSP’s guidance.

Real-time intelligence sharing with Uttar Pradesh Police enabled seamless coordination. The suspects were tracked and intercepted in Mirzapur, leading to the encounter and arrests.
