Durg Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Man With Over 2 Kg of Marijuana in Bhilai


Durg, India |In a major action against drug trafficking, Durg Police arrested a 21-year-old man and seized more than two kilograms of illegal marijuana during a joint operation in Bhilai Nagar, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrest was made on February 9 after Bhilai Nagar Police received a tip-off that a man was roaming around Shri Ram Chowk in the Hudco area of Bhilai on a scooter, carrying marijuana in a black bag with the intent to sell it. Acting on the information, a joint team of Bhilai Nagar Police and the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) conducted a cordon-and-search operation under the supervision of senior officers.

During the operation, the suspect was intercepted and searched in accordance with legal procedures. Police recovered 2.2 kilograms of marijuana, along with ₹10,800 (approximately $130) believed to be proceeds from drug sales. An Activa scooter used for transporting the contraband and a mobile phone were also seized. The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹170,800 (around 2,050).

The accused has been identified as Saurabh Dixit (21), a resident of the Kohka area in Durg district. A case has been registered against him under Sections 20(B) and 27(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he has been formally arrested. Police said an end-to-end investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the drugs and possible links to a wider network.

Police officials praised the Bhilai Nagar Police and ACCU teams for their swift and effective action in the case.

Durg Police also appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against narcotics by promptly sharing any information related to drug trafficking. Authorities assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and reiterated that their campaign against illegal drugs will continue without interruption.
