Shimla |SJVN Limited, a leading public sector power producer, has awarded an Electro-Mechanical (E&M) works contract worth ₹837.43 crore to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh, marking a major milestone in the execution of the project.
The contract agreement was finalized in the presence of Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN. The agreement was signed by Ravi Rajan, Executive Director (ECD), SJVN, and Ritu Raj, Senior Deputy General Manager, BHEL, with senior officials from both organizations attending the signing ceremony.
Under the contract, BHEL will be responsible for the complete Electro-Mechanical works of the project. The contract was awarded on January 1, 2026, and the execution of the works will be aligned with the project’s overall commissioning schedule of July 31, 2029.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Kumar Sharma stated that the Civil and Hydro-Mechanical packages, which were awarded earlier in January 2023, are already progressing at full pace. He emphasized that the award of the E&M package represents a crucial step toward integrating all key components of the project and maintaining momentum toward timely completion.
The Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project is a run-of-the-river scheme with diurnal storage, being developed across the Satluj River in the Shimla and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh. The project features a dam-toe surface powerhouse and is expected to generate approximately 1,381.77 million units of clean electricity annually once commissioned.
The project forms an important part of SJVN’s strategy to strengthen India’s renewable energy portfolio. The power generated from the Sunni Dam project will contribute to the national grid, enhancing energy security while supporting India’s long-term climate and sustainability goals.
