Retired PWD Officer Arrested in Gang Rape Case Involving a Minor


Durg/Bhilai, Chhattisgarh — Durg police have arrested a retired government officer in connection with a serious gang rape case involving a minor, marking another major breakthrough in the long-running investigation. With this arrest, the total number of accused taken into custody in the case has risen to three.

The case relates to incidents that allegedly occurred between 2018 and October 11, 2025. The investigation is being handled by the Women’s Police Station in Durg, which has been conducting a detailed probe for several years. Police officials stated that electronic evidence and other material proof are being thoroughly examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Retired Public Works Department Official Held

During the course of the investigation, police identified the involvement of another accused and took him into custody for questioning before formally arresting him. The accused is a 62-year-old resident of Rajnandgaon and a retired officer of the Public Works Department (PWD).

Officials described the arrest as significant, given the accused’s former position as a senior government official.

Police Assure Strict Legal Action

City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Manishankar Chandra said the case is being investigated with utmost seriousness. He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty and that there will be no negligence at any stage of the investigation.

“The police are committed to ensuring that every accused involved in this sensitive case is brought to justice,” he said.

Police teams continue to pursue leads to identify and arrest other individuals who may be linked to the case. Authorities indicated that further arrests are likely in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
