Numaligarh Refinery Signs Nine Strategic MoUs at India Energy Week 2026 to Expand into Green Energy and LNG


Mumbai |Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has signed nine strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with a range of industry players and research institutions during India Energy Week 2026, marking a major step in its transition toward a diversified and sustainable energy portfolio.

The agreements, signed at the flagship energy event in Goa, span multiple future-oriented segments, including green and renewable energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), biofuels, petrochemicals, and advanced research and development. The move reflects NRL’s strategy to expand beyond its core refining business into high-growth and environmentally sustainable areas of the energy value chain.

Broad-Based Partnerships Across the Energy Spectrum

NRL entered into collaborations with industry innovators, research organizations, and energy majors to strengthen value creation from its existing Bio-Refinery and upcoming Polypropylene Plant, while also advancing new technology development.

Key partnerships include:

  • Forace Speciality Chem Pvt. Ltd. and Fermbox Bio Pvt. Ltd. for value addition and product diversification from bio-refinery outputs, including advanced biofuels and biochemicals
  • altM Bio for cutting-edge R&D in sustainable products and green chemistry
  • Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) for joint research initiatives aimed at innovation in refining processes and emerging energy technologies
  • Indo Petroleum Marketing to strengthen downstream marketing and distribution capabilities
  • Padma Healthcare to explore applications of petrochemical derivatives in specialty healthcare and pharmaceutical segments
  • Oil India Limited (OIL) and TotalEnergies Gas & Power Projects India Pvt. Ltd., under a tripartite MoU, to jointly develop projects across the LNG value chain
  • Binbag and BitChem for sustainable packaging solutions and specialty chemical applications using polypropylene

Leadership Commentary

The MoUs were signed on behalf of NRL by senior executives Pratul Saikia (SCGM–Finance), Jyoti Bhusan Sarma (CGM–Business Development), and Jayanta Goswami (CGM–Corporate Communications).

“These partnerships are central to NRL’s vision of becoming an integrated energy company of the future,” an NRL spokesperson said. “Collaborating with leaders in renewables, LNG, and research will accelerate innovation, sustainability, and value creation from both our existing and upcoming assets.”
