Bilaspur / Korba: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has taken a major step towards strengthening public welfare infrastructure in Chhattisgarh by signing multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. Through these agreements, SECL has committed a total CSR expenditure of nearly ₹11.87 crore aimed at improving healthcare facilities, early childhood development centres and access to safe drinking water in project-affected areas of the state.

The MoUs were signed on 05 January 2026 at SECL Headquarters under the guidance of Shri Biranchi Das, Director (HR). The agreements were executed on behalf of SECL by Shri C. M. Verma, General Manager (CSR), in the presence of senior CSR officials and representatives of partner organizations.

Strengthening Public Healthcare Infrastructure

As part of its CSR focus on healthcare, SECL has approved projects to enhance infection control, indoor air quality and patient safety in major government hospitals using advanced semiconductor-based air sterilization technology.

At Late Bisahu Das Mahant Memorial Government Medical College & Hospital, Korba, SECL has sanctioned ₹2.81 crore for the procurement and installation of 62 Semiconductor Air Sterilizer Units. These units will be installed in critical areas such as operation theatres, ICUs, MICUs, NICUs, PICUs, labour rooms, TB wards and burn wards. The initiative is expected to significantly improve hygiene standards, reduce infection risks and enhance workplace safety for healthcare professionals, while benefiting patients from Korba and surrounding districts.

Similarly, at Kumar Sahab Swargiya Shri Dilip Singh Judeo Government Super Specialty Hospital, Bilaspur, SECL will provide CSR support of ₹3.49 crore for the installation of 77 Semiconductor Air Sterilizer Units. These will be deployed in operation theatres, ICUs, MICUs, dialysis units and other enclosed treatment areas, strengthening infection prevention measures and improving overall patient and staff safety in the region’s premier government hospital.

Focus on Early Childhood Development

In a major push towards social infrastructure and child welfare, SECL has signed an MoU with Shrushti Seva Samiti, Udaipur (Rajasthan) for the development of 200 Model Anganwadi Centres in Bilaspur district. The project involves a CSR investment of ₹4.72 crore.

Under this initiative, existing Anganwadi centres will be upgraded with improved infrastructure, sanitation facilities, furniture and child-friendly learning environments. The project aims to strengthen early childhood care and education services, directly benefiting thousands of children and families at the grassroots level.

Safe Drinking Water for Mining-Affected Villages

SECL has also entered into an MoU with CIPET, Raipur, to improve access to safe drinking water in mining-affected communities of the Gevra Area. Under this project, 3,989 sets of 30-litre capacity domestic water filters, along with water treatment kits, will be supplied and distributed in project-affected villages.

With a CSR expenditure of ₹84.73 lakh, this initiative is expected to enhance access to potable drinking water, thereby improving public health and quality of life for local residents.

Commitment to Inclusive Development

Through these CSR initiatives, SECL has reiterated its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development in Chhattisgarh. By investing in healthcare, early childhood education and basic amenities like safe drinking water, the company aims to create long-term positive impacts in communities affected by its mining operations.
