Jashpur । The ongoing “Operation Shankhnaad” launched by Jashpur Police to curb organized crime and cattle smuggling has begun delivering visible positive results. In a remarkable development, a dreaded cattle smuggler from Saitangartoli has abandoned the path of crime and joined the mainstream of society by starting an honest livelihood.
Where the operation started, a new beginning has taken shape — the same location has now witnessed the inauguration of “Bablu Shankh Dhaba”. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh became the first customer of the newly opened dhaba, drinking tea and paying the price as a symbolic gesture of encouragement.
From Cattle Smuggling to Self-Employment
A resident of Saitangartoli village, Amjad Hajaam alias Bablu (40) was infamously involved in cattle smuggling for several years. Three cases of cattle smuggling are registered against him at Lodam Police Station. For nearly eight months, he remained absconding across different states but eventually surrendered under continuous pressure and monitoring by the Jashpur Police.
After his release from jail, a meeting with SSP Shashi Mohan Singh proved a turning point in his life. The SSP advised him that crime leads only to fear, insecurity and imprisonment, and that choosing the right path ensures dignity, peace and a secure future for the family. The conversation left a deep emotional and psychological impact on Amjad, prompting him to vow to abandon crime forever.
Dhaba Inaugurated, SSP Becomes First Customer
To earn an honest livelihood, Amjad established “Bablu Shankh Dhaba” on the Chhattisgarh–Jharkhand border along the main highway frequented by travelers. On December 04, 2025, SSP Shashi Mohan Singh inaugurated the dhaba, becoming its first customer. The SSP enjoyed tea, paid the full price, and congratulated Amjad for the new beginning in life.
The event was attended by nearby villagers, traders, police officers and local representatives. All present welcomed Amjad’s decision to return to society and wished him success in his new journey.
Message to Youth: “Crime Is Not an Option”
Addressing the gathering, SSP Singh highlighted that a criminal harms not only society, but also himself and his family.
He appealed to youth to walk on the right path and emphasized that Jashpur Police will fully support anyone willing to leave crime and live respectfully.
Community Policing & Rehabilitation Model
Jashpur Police’s initiative is being viewed as a model of community policing and social rehabilitation. Rather than focusing only on arrests, the police are working to uproot crime by offering offenders a chance to reform.
Amjad expressed gratitude and said:
“I will stay away from crime forever. SSP sir made me realize that life can change. Now I will feed my family with honesty.”
A Step Toward a Crime-Free Society
The transformation of Amjad from a repeat offender to an entrepreneur is an inspirational example not only for Saitangartoli village but for the entire district. This positive change is expected to strengthen social harmony, public trust and crime-free environment across Jashpur.
SSP Shashi Mohan Singh stated:
“This is a strong example of community policing. Our efforts toward positive change and rehabilitation will continue in the future as well.”
