Bhagat Singh Kushram, who relies on oxygen support due to a serious liver condition, continues to struggle as inadequate electricity supply prevents him from using the oxygen generator provided by the district administration.
Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi: A serious power supply problem has added to the difficulties of Bhagat Singh Kushram, a resident of Girari village in Pendra, who is battling a severe liver disease and depends on oxygen support. Despite receiving an automatic oxygen generator from the district administration, he remains unable to use the machine because of low voltage at his home.
Around 15 days after the issue came to light, the electricity problem reportedly remains unresolved. Kushram has been forced to stay at his sister and brother-in-law’s house in Piparkhuti, where the power supply is adequate to operate the equipment.
The situation has raised questions about the follow-up action taken after officials assured the family that the electricity problem would be addressed.
Oxygen Generator Provided, but Low Voltage Remains a Hurdle
Kushram’s difficulties came to public attention after ETV Bharat reported his condition on October 9. Following the report, the district administration provided him with an automatic oxygen generator in an effort to ease his dependence on oxygen cylinders.
However, the relief has proved incomplete. According to the report, the low voltage at his home in Girari prevents him from operating the machine, leaving him dependent on oxygen cylinders.
Although officials had reportedly assured the family that the electricity supply would be improved, Kushram says there has been no significant change even after 15 days.
Forced to Stay at Relatives’ Home
With the oxygen generator unusable at his own house, Kushram has had to leave his home and stay with relatives in Piparkhuti.
Explaining his predicament, he said the electricity supply at his relatives’ house allows him to manage his oxygen requirements, but he cannot depend on others indefinitely.
“If the low-voltage problem in my village were resolved, I could stay in my own home. But how long can I continue living at someone else’s house? How long will relatives be able to accommodate me?” Kushram said.
His situation highlights the difficulties faced by patients who require electricity-dependent medical equipment but lack a reliable power supply at home.
Travelling by Motorcycle to Obtain Oxygen Cylinders
Kushram continues to face another challenge: arranging oxygen cylinders. He reportedly has to travel to Gaurela on a motorcycle to obtain them, with relatives helping him make the journey.
The sight of a seriously ill patient travelling with an oxygen tube in his nose and a cylinder tied to the motorcycle with a rope illustrates the hardship he is facing.
For Kushram, the problem is no longer simply an inconvenience caused by poor electricity supply. It directly affects his ability to use the medical equipment provided to him and remain safely at home.
Questions Over Action After Administrative Assurance
The case has brought renewed attention to the need for timely coordination between the district administration and the electricity department when essential services affect a patient’s medical needs.
While the oxygen generator was an important step towards helping Kushram, the equipment cannot serve its intended purpose without an adequate and reliable power supply.
The key question now is whether the concerned department will take effective action to resolve the low-voltage problem and enable him to return to his own home.
For Kushram and his family, a lasting solution to the electricity issue could make a significant difference to his daily life.
