Flood Threat Rises Along Riverbanks as Water Flow Intensifies; Hasaud-Sarsiwa Route Closed Near Parsada
Sakti/Barekel : The water level in the Mahanadi has risen sharply in the Barekel area of Sakti district following the opening of all gates of the Gangrel Dam, triggering concerns over possible flooding in villages located along the river.
With the river witnessing a strong and rapidly increasing flow, the Sakti district administration has moved into high-alert mode. Officials are maintaining continuous surveillance in areas considered vulnerable to flooding and have begun preparations to shift residents to safer locations wherever necessary.
Authorities are also advising villagers to stay away from the river, streams and other water bodies and to avoid unnecessary movement in areas that could be affected by rising water levels.
Hasaud-Sarsiwa Road Closed
The increased flow of water has already affected local connectivity. The road connecting Hasaud with Sarsiwa, which crosses the Mahanadi near Parsada, has been closed to traffic after conditions became unsafe.
The restriction has disrupted movement between the two areas, with residents facing difficulties in travelling along the route.
Police Deployed in Vulnerable Areas
The police administration is also keeping a close watch on sensitive locations. Police personnel have been deployed along riverbanks and flood-prone routes to prevent people from entering dangerous areas and to advise residents to remain cautious.
The district administration and police have appealed to the public to strictly follow official instructions and avoid approaching the Mahanadi or flooded roads.
Officials have particularly cautioned people against attempting to cross flooded stretches or going near rivers and streams, as strong currents can pose a serious risk even when the water level appears manageable.
Administration Monitoring Situation
The administration is continuing to monitor the situation in vulnerable villages and is keeping arrangements in place for evacuation if required. Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to remain alert and cooperate with officials during any evacuation or movement restrictions.
Authorities have advised people to rely on official information and avoid taking risks near the river until the water situation improves.
