The Priyadarshan-directed thriller has sold over 28,000 tickets for its opening day so far, with advance sales remaining modest a day before release
Hyderabad, September 10: Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are returning to the big screen after Bhoot Bangla with their new thriller ‘Haiwaan’, which is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 11. However, with just a day left before its theatrical release, the film’s advance booking in India has been relatively slow.
Despite the trailer release, Haiwaan has not generated the level of buzz that would normally be expected ahead of a major theatrical release. The film’s opening-day pre-sales suggest that audience interest is currently limited, although bookings could pick up significantly on the final day and after the first shows begin.
‘Haiwaan’ Advance Booking Update
According to Sacnilk, Haiwaan had sold 28,423 tickets across 6,183 shows in India as of 7 pm on September 10. The film had generated around ₹62.63 lakh in advance gross collections based on the reported figures.
If blocked seats are included, the figure rises to around ₹2.06 crore, according to the same report.
Delhi has recorded the highest advance sales among the reported markets, contributing around ₹12.72 lakh to the film’s advance gross.
The current numbers indicate a cautious start for the film. However, advance booking alone cannot determine the eventual opening-day performance, as a substantial portion of Indian theatrical business comes from last-minute ticket purchases and walk-in audiences.
Final-Day Bookings Could Change the Picture
With the film releasing on Friday, the makers will be hoping for a stronger response from audiences during the final hours of advance sales. Evening and late-night shows could also see increased occupancy if the initial audience response turns positive.
The film’s actual opening-day collection will depend on several factors, including show occupancy, last-minute bookings and audience response after the first screenings.
Some trade observers have reportedly drawn comparisons with the opening performances of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Selfiee’ and ‘Mission Raniganj’, although the final box-office numbers will only become clear after the film’s theatrical release.
What Is ‘Haiwaan’ About?
Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is reportedly a remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam film ‘Oppam’, although changes have been made to the story for the Hindi adaptation.
The film revolves around a dangerous cat-and-mouse game involving a psychopath played by Akshay Kumar and a visually impaired character played by Saif Ali Khan.
The cast also includes Saiyami Kher, Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Sharib Hashmi in important roles.
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan Reunite After 18 Years
Haiwaan marks the return of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan as co-stars after nearly 18 years. The two actors were previously seen together in films including Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Yeh Dillagi.
Produced with the backing of KVN Productions and Thespian Films, the film is produced by Venkat K. Narayan and Shailaja Desai Fen. Pritam has composed the music.
With the release now just one day away, the focus will shift from advance sales to audience reactions and occupancy across theatres. A strong word-of-mouth response could still give Haiwaan a boost over the weekend.
