Tata Chemicals North America declared successful bidder in Searles Valley Minerals’ Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings; contracts expected to generate over $110 million in revenue
New Delhi: Tata Chemicals Ltd has announced that its wholly owned US subsidiary, Tata Chemicals North America Inc. (TCNA), has acquired North American soda ash customer contracts covering more than 500,000 metric tonnes.
The contracts will cover soda ash supplies from September 2026 through December 2028, strengthening Tata Chemicals’ position in the North American soda ash market and expanding its customer base.
TCNA wins bid in SVM USA bankruptcy proceedings
According to Tata Chemicals, TCNA has entered into an Assignment and Assumption Agreement (ASA) with Searles Valley Minerals Inc. (SVM), USA, to acquire certain soda ash customer contracts along with related commercial rights.
TCNA was declared the successful bidder in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings of SVM USA.
The transaction has received approval from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The acquisition involves a cash consideration of $21.16 million and remains subject to customary closing conditions specified under the ASA.
Contracts expected to generate over $110 million
The acquired customer contracts cover more than 500,000 metric tonnes of soda ash demand. Tata Chemicals expects the contracts to generate more than $110 million in revenue during the contract period ending December 2028.
The acquisition is therefore expected to provide the company with greater visibility into future demand and strengthen its long-term customer relationships in the North American market.

Tata Chemicals CEO and Managing Director R. Mukundan said the acquisition represents a strategic opportunity for the company to strengthen its presence in the North American soda ash market.
He said the acquired contracts secure more than 500,000 metric tonnes of demand and are expected to generate revenues exceeding $110 million through December 2028.
The company said the transaction will also enhance its portfolio of long-term customer relationships, improve demand visibility and reinforce its focus on reliable supply and high-quality customer service.
