Engineers India Limited Enters Maritime Sector with Key Offshore Safety Standards Assignment

New Delhi : Engineers India Limited (EIL), a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has announced its strategic entry into the maritime sector. The company has been awarded the consultancy assignment for developing Indian Standards for Offshore Safety Training and Certification.

This marks EIL’s first major foray into the maritime domain, expanding beyond its traditional expertise in hydrocarbon processing, refining, and infrastructure engineering.

Details of the Assignment

EIL will provide consultancy services for framing comprehensive Indian standards related to offshore safety training and certification. The initiative aims to create a structured and standardised framework for safety protocols, skill development, and certification requirements for personnel involved in offshore operations.

The development of these standards is expected to:

  • Strengthen safety protocols for offshore activities
  • Improve skill standards among the workforce
  • Ensure better regulatory alignment with national and international norms
  • Enhance overall operational safety in India’s growing offshore sector

Strategic Significance

EIL’s entry into the maritime sector reflects its ongoing diversification strategy. While the company has long been a leading engineering consultancy in the oil and gas and infrastructure domains, this assignment positions it in a new area of national importance — offshore safety and maritime standards development.

The move is seen as timely, given the increasing focus on offshore energy exploration, renewable energy projects at sea, and the need for robust safety frameworks in India’s maritime and offshore industries.

With this consultancy, Engineers India Limited has formally stepped into the maritime domain, signalling its intent to play a larger role in shaping technical standards and safety practices beyond its conventional hydrocarbon engineering portfolio.
