New Delhi : India’s Railway Board has approved the deputation of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer Sourav Kumar Modi from Western Railway to the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL). He will assume the role of Joint General Manager (Corporate Coordination) at the corporation’s headquarters.
The appointment has been made on standard deputation terms and is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity at DFCCIL, a key government entity tasked with developing high-capacity freight rail corridors across the country.
Deputation Terms and Duration
According to the official order issued by the Ministry of Railways, Modi’s deputation will be for a period of three years or until further instructions are issued, whichever comes first.
He will continue to draw his parent pay along with applicable deputation allowances, in line with existing government norms. The appointment is also subject to approval by the competent authority regarding exemption from the rule of immediate absorption, which typically applies to positions within DFCCIL.
Western Railway authorities have been directed to relieve Modi from his current post at the earliest and notify the Railway Board of his official date of release.
Professional Background
Prior to this assignment, Sourav Kumar Modi was serving as Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Dy. CME/DHD) with Western Railway. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing key aspects of mechanical operations and maintenance within the division.
As a member of the IRSME cadre, Modi brings extensive experience in railway engineering, operations, and project execution—skills considered critical for his new responsibilities at DFCCIL.
Role at DFCCIL
In his new capacity as Joint General Manager (Corporate Coordination), Modi will be responsible for facilitating inter-departmental coordination, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring smooth communication between DFCCIL and various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Railways.
Strategic Importance
The deputation comes at a time when DFCCIL is playing a pivotal role in transforming India’s freight transportation infrastructure. The corporation is leading the development of dedicated freight corridors designed to decongest existing rail networks, improve logistics efficiency, and support economic growth.
Strengthening leadership positions through experienced officers like Modi is seen as essential to maintaining momentum in the execution of these large-scale infrastructure projects.
This move underscores the government’s continued focus on enhancing operational efficiency and coordination within its flagship railway initiatives.
