India Delivers 4.7 Million LPG Cylinders in a Day, Assures Uninterrupted Supply Amid West Asia Tensions

New Delhi  — India’s domestic cooking gas supply remains stable despite escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, with the government confirming that nearly 4.7 million LPG cylinders were delivered nationwide in a single day.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the large-scale distribution on Saturday reflects the country’s strong supply chain resilience even as concerns grow over potential disruptions following military conflict in the region and the reported blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Surge in Demand, Stable Supply

The ministry reported a 99% surge in online LPG bookings, with approximately 4.74 million cylinders booked and nearly 4.7 million delivered on the same day. Officials emphasized that there has been no shortage or disruption in LPG availability across the country.

“No supply constraints have been reported by distributors,” the ministry said, reassuring consumers amid fears of global energy supply shocks.

Government Monitoring and Enforcement

To prevent panic buying and illegal activities, the government has intensified enforcement measures against hoarding and black marketing.

  • Over 1,900 raids have been conducted nationwide so far.
  • Authorities are actively monitoring supply chains to ensure fair distribution.

PNG Expansion and Infrastructure Growth

The government also highlighted progress in expanding piped natural gas (PNG) access:

  • Around 604,000 PNG connections have been gasified since March this year.
  • Infrastructure for an additional 268,000 connections has been completed.
  • This brings the total number of connections to approximately 872,000.

Awareness Campaigns and Smaller Cylinders

Since April 3, public sector oil marketing companies have stepped up outreach efforts:

  • More than 10,100 awareness camps have been conducted nationwide.
  • Around 175,000 five-kilogram Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders have been sold.
  • On the latest reporting day alone, over 3,700 small cylinders were sold through more than 130 camps.

Government Assurance

The government reiterated that it is taking all necessary measures to safeguard energy supplies, maintain maritime operations, and support Indian citizens amid evolving global conditions.

Despite uncertainty in international energy markets, India’s LPG distribution system appears to be functioning efficiently, ensuring uninterrupted access to cooking fuel for millions of households.
