Mumbai : HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, has announced that its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Parivartan, has positively impacted more than 10.77 crore lives across all 28 States and 8 Union Territories of India. The milestone was highlighted in the Bank’s Integrated Annual Report for FY 2025–26, underscoring its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development through community-driven interventions.
Working in close partnership with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), local administrations, and community institutions, HDFC Bank has continued to expand the reach of its CSR programmes, ensuring that its initiatives remain locally relevant, scalable, and capable of delivering long-term sustainable impact.
CSR Spending Crosses ₹1,316 Crore in FY26
During the Financial Year 2025–26, HDFC Bank invested ₹1,316.18 crore in CSR activities, representing an increase of more than ₹248 crore compared to the previous financial year.
With this latest investment, the Bank’s cumulative CSR expenditure under Parivartan has reached approximately ₹7,492 crore since the programme’s inception, making it one of the largest CSR initiatives undertaken by a private sector financial institution in India.
Holistic Rural Development Programme Expands to Over 11,000 Villages
At the heart of Parivartan is the Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP), HDFC Bank’s flagship CSR initiative designed to improve the quality of life in rural India through an integrated, cluster-based development model.
The programme has now expanded to more than 11,000 villages, up from over 10,430 villages in the previous year.
The initiative focuses on multiple aspects of rural development, including:
- Water stewardship
- Sustainable agriculture
- Livelihood enhancement
- Education
- Healthcare
- Sanitation
- Community infrastructure
- Natural resource management
Through this comprehensive approach, HRDP aims to strengthen rural ecosystems while creating sustainable opportunities for local communities.
Greater Focus on Border Villages
In line with national priorities under the Border Area Development Programme and the Vibrant Villages Programme of the Government of India, HDFC Bank significantly expanded its CSR outreach to border villages during FY26.
The Bank increased its coverage from 298 villages in the previous year to 498 border villages, extending support in areas such as:
- Rural electrification
- Livelihood generation
- Agricultural development
- Educational infrastructure
- Healthcare services
- Basic community infrastructure
The expansion reflects the Bank’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches some of the country’s most remote and strategically important regions.

Six Core Focus Areas of Parivartan
HDFC Bank’s Parivartan programme operates across six major focus areas, each addressing critical aspects of inclusive development.
1. Rural Development
The Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP) continues to drive integrated rural transformation through improvements in infrastructure, education, health, sanitation, and natural resource management.

2. Promotion of Education
The Bank continues to invest in improving access to quality education through scholarships, school infrastructure, and digital learning initiatives.
Key achievements include:
- 36,300+ scholarships awarded
- 3,460+ SMART schools established
- 930 community libraries developed
3. Skill Training and Livelihood Enhancement
Parivartan equips youth, women, and aspiring entrepreneurs with vocational skills and entrepreneurship support to promote sustainable livelihoods.
- More than 9.6 lakh individuals have benefited from these programmes to date.
4. Healthcare and Hygiene
The Bank has expanded access to healthcare through preventive care initiatives, maternal and child health programmes, mobile medical units, and hygiene awareness campaigns.
- Over 3 lakh individuals have benefited from healthcare and hygiene initiatives.
5. Financial Literacy and Inclusion
Through awareness programmes and access to banking and insurance services, HDFC Bank continues to promote financial inclusion.
Its flagship ‘Vigil Aunty’ Digital Fraud Awareness Campaign has reached over 75 lakh followers across digital platforms, helping citizens identify and avoid financial fraud.
6. Natural Resource Management
The Bank promotes environmental sustainability through water conservation, renewable energy, afforestation, and biodiversity initiatives.
Key achievements include:
- 16,091 water conservation structures created
- 80,527+ solar lights installed
Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
HDFC Bank stated that the six focus areas under Parivartan are aligned with 10 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally responsible development.
By integrating social, environmental, and economic priorities into its CSR strategy, the Bank aims to contribute meaningfully to India’s long-term development agenda while supporting global sustainability objectives.
