Cochin Shipyard Appoints Riya Mathew as Head of Internal Audit Following Leadership Transition


Kochi, India — : Cochin Shipyard Limited, one of India’s leading state-owned shipbuilding and maintenance firms, has announced the appointment of Riya Mathew as its new Head of Internal Audit, effective May 2, 2026. The move follows the retirement of Mary Ranjit Abraham, marking a key leadership transition within the company’s finance and compliance division.

The update was formally disclosed to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India in accordance with Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, which mandates timely disclosure of material corporate developments.


Leadership Transition in Internal Audit

Mathew, who currently serves as Assistant General Manager (Internal Audit) In-Charge, will assume the responsibilities of Head of Internal Audit until further orders. She succeeds Abraham, who retired on April 30, 2026, after serving as Deputy General Manager (Internal Audit) and leading the function.

The transition ensures continuity in the company’s internal audit operations, a critical component of corporate governance and financial oversight.


Strong Background in Finance and Compliance

At 45, Mathew brings nearly two decades of experience in finance, internal audit, and regulatory compliance. A Chartered Accountant by profession, her expertise spans:

  • Internal financial controls
  • Risk management and audit processes
  • Corporate compliance frameworks
  • Financial operations and reporting

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mahatma Gandhi University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning.

Mathew joined Cochin Shipyard in February 2007 as Assistant Manager (Finance) and has since worked across several key verticals, including billing, internal financial control systems, audit functions, and IAC finance. Her long tenure within the organization is expected to support a smooth transition into her expanded leadership role.
