State’s procurement through Government e-Marketplace rises 113% in one year
Raipur: Chhattisgarh has been honoured with the GeM Sustainable Procurement Award at the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). The award was presented by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
The event marked the completion of 10 years of GeM and was organised under the theme “GeM 10: A Decade of Exponential Possibilities.”
Chhattisgarh received the award under the State Government Felicitation category, one of the premier award categories for state governments. The recognition was given for the state’s effective utilisation of GeM and the significant increase in both the value and volume of government procurement through the digital marketplace.
GeM Opens Government Market for Entrepreneurs: CM Sai
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said GeM has provided entrepreneurs in the state with a powerful platform to connect directly with government demand and markets without intermediaries.
He said the significant increase in participation by women entrepreneurs, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs, and startups demonstrates the success of the transparent procurement system.
“An open and transparent digital marketplace provides equal opportunities to every entrepreneur. Our government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of this system reach the maximum number of micro and small enterprises, women entrepreneurs, SC/ST entrepreneurs and startups in the state,” Sai said.
He added that the government is working to strengthen local entrepreneurship while ensuring transparent government procurement as part of its efforts towards building a developed Chhattisgarh.
₹130 Crore Saved Through Open Competition
The transparent and competitive tendering process on the GeM platform helped the Chhattisgarh government save approximately ₹130 crore during the financial year 2025-26.
The savings resulted from the difference between the estimated cost prepared by government departments and the actual market price achieved through open competitive bidding.
GeM’s open bidding process, standardised specifications and digitally recorded, auditable transactions help promote transparency and competition in government procurement.
Over the past three financial years, competitive procurement through the platform has helped the state government achieve cumulative savings of approximately ₹235 crore.
GeM Procurement Rises 113% to ₹3,935 Crore
Government procurement through GeM in Chhattisgarh increased sharply during FY 2025-26, reaching ₹3,935 crore.
This represents a 113% increase compared with the previous financial year, highlighting the state government’s growing adoption of the digital procurement platform.
The rapid expansion reflects increasing reliance on transparent, technology-driven procurement mechanisms across government departments.
MSMEs Receive Orders Worth ₹1,800 Crore
The increased use of GeM has also significantly expanded the participation of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in government procurement.
During FY 2025-26, procurement from MSEs increased by 61% to ₹1,800 crore.
The figure is substantially higher than the prescribed 25% MSE procurement target, indicating stronger participation of smaller businesses in the government marketplace.
Women, SC/ST Entrepreneurs and Startups See Strong Growth
Participation by priority entrepreneur groups also recorded significant growth through GeM.
Procurement from women entrepreneurs increased by 97%, while purchases from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs rose by 108%.
The strongest growth was recorded in procurement from startups, which increased by 178%.
The figures indicate that the digital procurement platform is increasingly enabling smaller and emerging businesses to access government markets and procurement opportunities.
GeM Strengthens Transparent Procurement Ecosystem
The recognition for Chhattisgarh comes as the state continues to expand its use of digital and competitive government procurement.
The combination of increased procurement volumes, cost savings and greater participation from MSEs, women entrepreneurs, SC/ST businesses and startups has strengthened the state’s procurement ecosystem.
With government purchases through GeM reaching ₹3,935 crore and procurement from MSEs touching ₹1,800 crore, Chhattisgarh has emerged as a strong example of how digital public procurement can promote transparency, competition and inclusive economic participation.
