BSP Organises ‘Mission Lakshmi’ Health Camp to Promote Preventive Healthcare Among Women Contract Workers

Bhilai, Chhattisgarh | In a significant initiative aimed at promoting women’s health, preventive healthcare, nutrition, and hygiene awareness, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), through its Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Research Centre (JLNHRC) in collaboration with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department, organised a one-day health screening camp under the Mission Lakshmi programme at the Bhilai Medical and Diagnostic Centre (BMDC), Sector-7, on August 4, 2026.

The camp focused on providing health screening, medical consultation, nutrition awareness, and timely healthcare interventions for women contract workers, reinforcing BSP’s commitment to employee welfare and community health.

Focus on Preventive Healthcare and Women’s Well-being

The health camp was designed to raise awareness about the importance of:

  • Early diagnosis of diseases

Medical experts interacted with participants and encouraged women to prioritize their health through regular screening and early medical consultation.

Dr. Uday Kumar Highlights Importance of Regular Health Check-ups

Addressing the participants, Dr. Uday Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (Medical and Health Services), BSP, highlighted the healthcare facilities available under Mission Lakshmi and urged women to undergo routine health examinations to detect potential health issues at an early stage.

He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the women contract workers and commended the dedicated efforts of the Mission Lakshmi team in making the programme a success.

Describing the initiative as a significant step toward women’s health and empowerment, he emphasized that preventive healthcare plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life.

Dr. Neeli Kujur, Additional Chief Medical Officer (Medical and Health Services), explained the vision and objectives of the Mission Lakshmi campaign.

She stated that the initiative is aimed at:

  • Encouraging women to seek timely medical advice.

During the programme, medical specialists conducted informative sessions on various aspects of women’s and child health.

Child Health and Breastfeeding Awareness

Dr. Subhasmita, Paediatrician, educated participants on:

  • Child healthcare
  • Balanced nutrition
  • Importance of timely immunisation
  • Regular health check-ups for children

Observing World Breastfeeding Week, she also explained the scientifically proven benefits of breastfeeding, emphasizing that initiating breastfeeding immediately after birth significantly supports a child’s physical growth, mental development, stronger immunity, and protection against infections.

Women’s Health and Cancer Screening

Dr. Divya, Gynaecologist, stressed the importance of:

  • Regular health screening for adolescent girls and women
  • Early identification of cancer symptoms
  • Timely diagnostic investigations
  • Preventive vaccinations
  • Health awareness for lifelong well-being

She encouraged women to undergo periodic medical examinations for the early detection and prevention of serious illnesses.

Nutrition Awareness Session

During the programme, Paromita Dasgupta highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet.

She encouraged participants to include nutrient-rich foods in their daily meals to improve overall health, immunity, and physical well-being.

Interactive Health Counselling

The Mission Lakshmi team conducted an interactive counselling session where participants received practical guidance on:

  • Nutrition

The session allowed participants to directly interact with healthcare professionals and seek clarification on various medical issues.

Health Awareness Quiz Encourages Participation

To make the programme more engaging, organisers conducted a Health Awareness Quiz, encouraging active participation among attendees.

A total of 20 women participants who answered the questions correctly were awarded prizes, promoting awareness in an interactive and enjoyable manner.

The health camp was organised under the leadership of Dr. Uday Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (Medical and Health Services), and under the guidance of Dr. Neeli Kujur, Additional Chief Medical Officer (Medical and Health Services).
