Sakti/Kulgam : A migrant worker from Chhattisgarh was killed in a terrorist attack in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening, after the attackers allegedly asked workers their names and identities before opening indiscriminate fire. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Ratre, a resident of Bundeli village in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh.
According to initial reports, the attack took place in the Kelam area of Kulgam, where several migrant laborers were working at a brick kiln. Another worker from Chhattisgarh was also reportedly injured after being shot during the incident.

Approximately one year ago, Deepak moved to Jammu and Kashmir along with his wife and brother in search of employment. He had been working as a laborer at a brick kiln to support his family.
Family Learned of the Tragedy Through Police
The victim’s family was reportedly unaware of the incident until local police reached their residence.
Following confirmation of the attack, the Superintendent of Police, Sakti, directed a police team to visit the family and personally inform them of Deepak’s death.
According to officials, the family had not received any prior information regarding the terrorist attack. The news plunged Bundeli village into mourning, with relatives and villagers expressing deep grief over the loss.
Administration Coordinating Return of Mortal Remains
The district administration has initiated the necessary coordination with authorities in Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate the transportation of Deepak Ratre’s mortal remains to his native village in Chhattisgarh.
