Over 40 Lakh Sq. Ft. Area to Be Cleaned, 3,300 MT Scrap Targeted for Disposal Under Special Campaign 6.0
Bilaspur: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Miniratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, is stepping up efforts to promote responsible waste management, e-waste segregation and workplace cleanliness through a series of awareness activities under Special Campaign 6.0.
The company is combining creative competitions, student engagement, public speaking and community sports to spread the message of Swachhata among students, employees and local communities. The initiatives are being conducted ahead of the campaign’s main implementation phase, with the objective of encouraging cleanliness and responsible waste disposal as a regular practice.
Students Turn Scrap Into Art
As part of its e-waste awareness drive, SECL organised ‘Scrap to Art’ competitions at schools in its operational areas, including DAV Public School and Saraswati Shishu Mandir in the Bhatgaon Area and Kendriya Vidyalaya in the Sohagpur Area.
Students used discarded electronic components, plastic, cardboard and other industrial scrap to create models and artworks. Through the activity, SECL sought to demonstrate how waste materials can be reused while creating awareness about the need for proper segregation and disposal of e-waste.
The initiative also aimed to familiarise students with the environmental risks associated with improper handling of electronic waste and encourage them to adopt responsible waste-management practices.
Students Raise Their Voice on Environmental Responsibility
SECL also organised a speech competition at DAV Public School, Bilaspur, where students spoke on environmental responsibility and possible solutions to waste-management challenges in their communities.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to discuss cleanliness, waste segregation and the importance of collective participation in protecting the environment.
‘Sports for Swachhata’ Links Fitness With Cleanliness
Taking the awareness campaign beyond classrooms, SECL organised a ‘Sports for Swachhata’ volleyball match at the SECL Bilaspur Headquarters Colony.
Before the match, participants joined a cleanliness drive to clear and clean the sports ground. The initiative connected physical fitness and community participation with the broader objective of maintaining clean and healthy public spaces.
225 Sites Identified for Special Campaign 6.0
SECL has also finalised ambitious operational targets for the implementation phase of Special Campaign 6.0, which is scheduled from October 2 to October 31, 2026.
The company has identified 225 locations for intensive cleanliness and waste-disposal activities. Across these sites, SECL plans to clean approximately 40 lakh square feet of area and dispose of around 3,300 metric tonnes of accumulated scrap.
The campaign will focus not only on physical cleanliness but also on improving the utilisation of office space, strengthening record management and reducing administrative pendency.
Focus on Physical and Digital Records
As part of its administrative targets, SECL plans to review 500 physical files and weed out 200 obsolete physical records during the campaign.
In the digital domain, the company has set targets to review 7,000 e-files and systematically close 3,000 e-files across its operational areas.
Through these measures, SECL aims to combine cleanliness, efficient resource utilisation and better record management with greater awareness of responsible waste disposal.
The company’s preparatory activities ahead of the implementation phase are intended to ensure wider participation and reinforce Swachhata as an ongoing institutional practice rather than a campaign limited to a specific period.
