Raigarh । Under the strong leadership and direction of Police Superintendent Divyang Patel, the Raigarh district has witnessed yet another significant example of strict law enforcement and precise investigation. Former Kharsia Police Station In-charge and current Gharghoda Police Station In-charge Inspector Kumar Gaurav Sahu conducted a fair, scientific and effective investigation that led to a major breakthrough in a sensitive criminal case. Supporting the investigation, Public Prosecutor P. N. Gupta presented strong arguments, concrete evidence and an impactful cross-examination in court, resulting in the conviction of the accused for culpable homicide.
In Sessions Case No. 114/2024 (Kharsia Police Station Crime No. 544/2024), Sessions Judge Raigarh Jitendra Kumar Jain convicted accused Kushal Chauhan, son of Jaduram Chauhan, age 41, resident of Bamhanpali, under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹100.
Case Background
As per prosecution details, on September 11, 2024, Bamhanpali village sarpanch’s husband Dayaram Rathiya received information that the accused had violently assaulted his wife Vimla Khadia during a domestic dispute. The accused dragged his wife to a room and brutally beat her with a bamboo stick, causing severe injuries. Family members immediately informed Dial-112, after which the injured woman was taken to Civil Hospital Kharsia, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Following the information, a marg inquiry was initiated at Kharsia Police Station and a criminal case was registered against the accused. Inspector Kumar Gaurav Sahu swiftly arrested the accused and, based on his memorandum, recovered the bamboo stick used in the offence and blood-stained clothes. All scientific evidence—including the patwari site map, witnesses’ statements, and forensic reports—was collected, and a strong charge-sheet was filed before the court.
During the trial, statements of 15 witnesses were recorded, on the basis of which the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence.
Outstanding Investigation Record
It is noteworthy that Inspector Kumar Gaurav Sahu had recently secured a life sentence for an accused in a murder case under Deendayal Nagar Police Station, Raipur. With this successive conviction in the current culpable homicide case, he has once again demonstrated his exceptional investigative skills. This verdict is being viewed as a significant achievement for the Police Department.
