Korba Court Convicts Man in November 2024 Murder Case Linked to Suspicion Over Woman’s Character
Korba, Chhattisgarh: A relationship that had reportedly progressed towards marriage ended in a murder after the accused allegedly developed doubts about the woman’s relationship with another man. A Korba district court has now sentenced her boyfriend to life imprisonment for her murder.
According to the prosecution, the accused, identified as Pintu, 25, met the woman in May 2024 at a wedding ceremony. The two exchanged phone numbers and gradually entered into a relationship. Their families had reportedly also begun discussing marriage.
The prosecution said that the accused later became suspicious that the woman, identified as Pooja, was involved with another man. The suspicion allegedly led to repeated disputes between the two.
Murder on November 25, 2024
According to Public Prosecutor Advocate Rajendra Sahu, the accused went to Pooja’s residence on November 25, 2024, after travelling by motorcycle to the Urga police station area.
The prosecution told the court that the two had a consensual physical relationship at the house. Afterwards, the accused allegedly told Pooja not to maintain relationships with other men, following which an argument broke out.
The dispute allegedly escalated into verbal abuse and physical assault. The accused then allegedly threw Pooja onto a cot and strangled her with a towel, resulting in her death.
Pooja was subsequently taken to New Korba Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead.
Alleged Attempt to Mislead Investigators
The prosecution further alleged that after committing the murder, the accused attempted to divert suspicion towards another person.
According to the prosecution, he left college examination papers and a letter at the scene in an apparent attempt to create misleading evidence. He also allegedly left his bag behind and fled on his motorcycle with the towel allegedly used in the crime.
Court Awards Life Imprisonment
After hearing the case, Third Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Nande convicted Pintu of murdering Pooja by strangulation and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹100 on the accused.
The conviction and sentence mark the conclusion of the trial arising from the November 2024 murder case.
