NTPC Korba records the highest PLF among NTPC stations for six consecutive years, while advancing fly ash utilisation and green belt initiatives
Korba, Chhattisgarh: Media delegations from Odisha and Dehradun visited NTPC Korba as part of an interstate media exposure tour to Chhattisgarh organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Bhubaneswar and PIB, Dehradun.
During the visit, journalists gained first-hand information about the functioning, operational efficiency, technological interventions, environmental protection measures and community development initiatives of NTPC Korba, one of the country’s major power generation stations.
An interaction programme was organised at NTPC Korba, where Executive Director Kishore Chandra Patra and senior officials briefed the visiting media representatives on the station’s operational performance and key initiatives. The interaction provided journalists from Odisha and Dehradun an opportunity to understand NTPC Korba’s contribution to electricity generation and the energy sector from the ground level.
NTPC Korba records highest PLF for six consecutive years
NTPC Korba has an installed capacity of 2,600 MW. During financial year 2025-26, the station recorded a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 87.71%, the highest among all NTPC stations during the financial year.
The station has recorded the highest PLF among NTPC stations for six consecutive years. During this period, it achieved 94.85% declared capacity and 95.33% on-bar availability.
NTPC Korba supplies electricity to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa.
During FY 2025-26, the station also recorded the highest operating income among NTPC’s coal-based power stations. Its specific oil consumption stood at 0.178 ml per kWh.
Units set long-duration continuous operation records
The visiting journalists were also briefed about NTPC Korba’s operational performance.
Unit-7 operated continuously for 455 days, while Unit-1 achieved 495 days of uninterrupted operation. All three units of Stage-I featured among NTPC’s top five units in terms of the longest continuous operation.
More than 3 million saplings planted
Environmental sustainability is a key focus area at NTPC Korba.
More than 33% of the station’s total area has been developed as green cover. The station has planted more than 3 million saplings, with a reported survival rate of over 95%.
More than 450,000 saplings have also been planted in the rehabilitated Charpara Ash Dyke area as part of the station’s environmental initiatives.
Fly ash utilisation exceeds annual target
The media delegations were also briefed about NTPC Korba’s fly ash management and utilisation efforts.
During FY 2025-26, the station utilised 60.71 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash, achieving 108.48% of its stipulated annual target.
The initiative forms part of NTPC Korba’s efforts to improve the utilisation of ash generated from its coal-based power generation operations.
CSR initiatives focus on health, education and livelihoods
NTPC Korba also highlighted its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives covering healthcare, education, skill development, livelihood enhancement, sports and community infrastructure.
Through its Mobile Health Unit initiative, healthcare services have been provided to more than 25,000 beneficiaries in surrounding villages.
Under the Girl Empowerment Mission, 660 students from 41 schools across 36 villages were recently covered by the programme.
NTPC Korba’s role in PM-SETU
The media representatives were also informed about NTPC Korba’s involvement in the Prime Minister’s Scheme for Strengthening and Upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (PM-SETU).
Under the initiative, NTPC Korba is supporting the strengthening of five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the Korba region. The support includes modernisation of training infrastructure, upgrading equipment, introducing trades aligned with industry requirements and strengthening practical training facilities.
For implementation of PM-SETU in the Korba cluster, NTPC Korba has committed ₹42 crore over five years.
The visit provided the Odisha and Dehradun media delegations with an opportunity to gain direct insights into NTPC Korba’s initiatives in power generation, operational efficiency, environmental management, skill development and community development, as well as its wider contribution to regional development and India’s energy sector.
