Sakti, Chhattisgarh | — Residents of Dhamni Gram Panchayat in Sakti district have expressed growing frustration over what they describe as the poor functioning and negligence of the local electricity department. Fed up with frequent and prolonged power outages, villagers gathered at the Chhapora Electricity Substation and submitted a memorandum to the Junior Engineer (JE), demanding immediate action to restore reliable electricity supply.
The villagers alleged that even light winds or minor technical faults result in electricity being cut off for 10 to 12 hours, causing severe inconvenience to households and farmers. They demanded regular and uninterrupted power supply and urged the department to install an AB Switch on the feeder line connecting Nariyara Substation to Dhamni, which they believe would significantly reduce unnecessary power disruptions.
According to local residents, the prolonged outages are having a serious impact on everyday life. Farmers are struggling to operate irrigation pumps, affecting agricultural activities. Students are unable to study due to the lack of electricity, while families face difficulties in accessing drinking water and meeting other daily household needs because electric water pumps remain non-functional during outages.
The villagers further claimed that the inefficient management at the Chhapora Substation is affecting not only Dhamni but also several nearby villages. They alleged that technical faults are not repaired promptly and that the absence of an effective backup system turns even minor electrical issues into hours-long power cuts.
In their memorandum, the villagers urged the electricity department to take immediate corrective measures and improve the reliability of power distribution. They warned that if their legitimate demands are ignored and no concrete improvements are made soon, they will launch a large-scale public protest against the department.
Prominent individuals present during the submission of the memorandum included Janpad Member Vijay Keshi, Youth Leader Sanjay Yadav, Mukundram Bhardwaj, Suresh Banjare, Raju Khunte, Vikas Koyal, and a large number of local residents.
The incident has raised an important question: Will the electricity department respond swiftly to the villagers’ concerns and resolve the long-standing power supply issues, or will consumers continue to endure prolonged outages and alleged administrative negligence?
