Hyderabad, August 28, 2026: Geetu Mohandas’ much-awaited pan-India action gangster drama Toxic, starring Kannada superstar Yash in the lead role, continued its run at the box office on Friday, August 28. The film, which hit theatres on August 26, has generated considerable buzz among audiences and has also attracted criticism and mixed reactions.
Despite the mixed response, the film opened strongly at the box office and crossed the ₹100 crore mark in India on its opening day. With the Raksha Bandhan holiday falling during its opening weekend, expectations were high that the film would see a significant jump in audience turnout.
However, the early Day 3 figures suggest that the holiday boost has been relatively limited so far.
Toxic Opening Day Collection
Toxic made a powerful debut at the Indian box office on Wednesday, August 26.
According to early figures reported by Sacnilk, the film collected approximately ₹101.10 crore net in India across all languages on its opening day. The movie recorded an overall theatre occupancy of around 56.1 per cent, with approximately 24,579 shows reported on Day 1.
The film also reportedly crossed the ₹150 crore mark worldwide on its opening day, giving the makers a strong start to its theatrical journey.
The impressive opening was particularly significant considering the film had already generated controversy and received mixed reactions ahead of and immediately after its release.
Second Day Saw a Sharp Drop
The film witnessed a significant decline in collections on Thursday, August 27, its second day in theatres.
According to the available figures, Toxic earned around ₹37.65 crore net in India on Day 2, representing a decline of approximately 62.8 per cent compared with its opening day.
Following the second day’s collection, the film’s two-day domestic net total stood at approximately ₹138.75 crore.
Its reported gross collection in India after two days was around ₹165.85 crore.
The sharp fall after the opening day raised questions about whether the film would be able to maintain its momentum during the extended holiday period.
Toxic Day 3 Box Office Collection
The third day coincided with the Raksha Bandhan holiday, which traditionally provides additional footfall to cinemas.
According to the latest early estimates available up to around 7 PM on Friday, Toxic had collected approximately ₹16.77 crore net in India from around 14,746 shows.
The film’s reported occupancy for the day stood at approximately 21.9 per cent.
With these early figures, the movie’s reported gross collection in India increased to around ₹185.64 crore.
However, the Day 3 numbers are not final. Collections could increase further once the figures from late-evening and night shows are added.
Hindi Version Continues to Lead
An interesting trend in the film’s performance is the stronger showing of its Hindi version compared with the original Kannada version.
On Day 3, the Hindi version reportedly earned around ₹12.07 crore, while the Kannada version collected approximately ₹2.77 crore.
This indicates that the film is attracting a considerable portion of its audience from the Hindi-speaking market, despite Yash being primarily known for his work in Kannada cinema.
The final language-wise figures are expected to provide a clearer picture of the film’s performance once the complete Day 3 data becomes available.
Will Raksha Bandhan Help Toxic Recover?
The Raksha Bandhan holiday was expected to give Toxic a boost, particularly because the film had already witnessed a substantial fall in collections on its second day.
While the early Day 3 figures show that the film has maintained a sizeable presence at the box office, the reported occupancy remains considerably lower than its opening-day level.
