Around 14 BA fourth-semester students at Sant Guru Ghasidas Government PG College in Dhamtari were reportedly given ATKT in a subject whose examination was never conducted
Dhamtari: Serious questions have been raised over the examination system of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) after around 14 students of BA fourth semester at Sant Guru Ghasidas Government Postgraduate College, Kurud, allegedly received examination results showing them as absent and awarded ATKT in a subject for which they had not even appeared for an examination.
The students have alleged that the issue relates to DSE – Money and Banking, a subject under the BA programme. According to the students, the examination was scheduled as per the university timetable, but the question paper was not received by the college on the scheduled date. As a result, the examination could not be conducted.
Despite this, when the university declared the results on August 21, 2026, the students found that their results had been affected. They were reportedly shown as absent and given ATKT (Allowed To Keep Terms). The students also alleged that the result incorrectly mentioned a B.Com subject instead of their BA subject.
Examination Was Not Conducted Due to Non-Availability of Question Paper
According to the students, the DSE-Money and Banking examination was scheduled for July 6, 2026. However, the college allegedly did not receive the question paper for the examination.
The college management had reportedly communicated the matter to the university. A letter sent by the college principal to the university registrar also stated that the examination could not be conducted on the scheduled date because the question paper was not available.
However, despite the university being informed about the issue, the students’ results were subsequently released with an absent status in the concerned examination.
Students Question Wrong Subject Mentioned in Result
The affected students said that they had selected Money and Banking as their subject and that the same subject was mentioned on their examination forms and admit cards.
However, they alleged that the result showed B.Com instead of the BA subject.
“We are 14 students. Money and Banking is mentioned on our examination forms and admit cards, but the result mentions B.Com. We never selected B.Com. The examination for Money and Banking was never conducted. Only our internal assessment marks have been entered, while we have been marked absent in the main examination, because of which ATKT has been shown.”
The students have questioned how a subject mentioned in the official timetable and admit cards could subsequently be treated differently in the result.
Students Submit Memorandum to University
Following the declaration of the results, the affected students approached the university administration and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate correction of their results.
The students said that they should not be penalised for an examination that they could not take because the question paper was allegedly unavailable.
They have demanded that:
- The incorrect subject mentioned in their results be corrected immediately.
- The ATKT and absent status be removed.
- The DSE-Money and Banking examination be conducted for the affected students.
- The university provide them an opportunity to complete the examination and obtain corrected results.
- Adequate time be provided for admission to the next semester so that the dispute does not affect their academic progression.
One student questioned the situation, saying that if the university maintains that Money and Banking is not a valid subject, it should explain why the subject appeared in the official timetable and on the students’ admit cards.
Students Worried About Next Semester Admission
The students are also concerned that the delay in conducting the examination and correcting the results could affect their admission to the next semester.
They fear that an ATKT recorded in the result could create problems in their academic progression and leave a permanent adverse impression on their academic record.
“We are worried that the ATKT will become a mark against us. We have studied and want to continue as regular students in the next semester, but we are being told that regular admission may not be possible.”
Another student alleged that this was not the first instance of examination-related errors affecting students.
“This is a very serious mistake, and it is not happening for the first time. I faced a similar problem in the third semester. I had passed the examination, but the university failed to upload my internal marks and I was shown as having ATKT. If such mistakes continue repeatedly, how can our academic future remain secure?”
College Principal Seeks Resolution
The college management has also taken up the matter with the university.
According to Rajkumar Pandey, Principal of Sant Guru Ghasidas Government Postgraduate College, the students were issued admit cards by the university, and the timetable mentioned the Money and Banking examination. The same subject was also reflected on the students’ admit cards.
However, when the results were released, B.Com was reportedly mentioned and the students were shown as having ATKT.
Pandey said that the internal assessment marks for Money and Banking had been reflected, while the students were marked absent in the main examination.
“The university issued the students their admit cards, and the timetable mentioned the Money and Banking examination. The subject was also mentioned on their admit cards. But when the results came, B.Com was mentioned and ATKT was shown. The internal assessment marks for Money and Banking are visible, while the students have been marked absent in the main examination.”
He said the college had forwarded applications and relevant documents submitted by the students to the university and requested that the matter be resolved.
Principal: Students Should Be Given an Opportunity to Appear
The principal stressed that the priority should be to protect the academic interests of the students rather than engage in blame-shifting.
“We want the welfare of the students. The university should conduct the examination so that the students can appear and their results can be issued. There is no benefit in blaming one another. The solution is for the university to conduct the examination for the affected students.”
The college has reportedly requested the university to examine the students’ applications and supporting documents and take appropriate action.
Questions Over Examination Management
The incident has raised concerns over coordination between the university and affiliated colleges, particularly regarding question-paper distribution, examination scheduling and result preparation.
The students maintain that they were ready to appear for the examination and had completed the required formalities. Since the examination could not be held due to the reported non-availability of the question paper, they argue that they should not be treated as absent or made to suffer an ATKT.
The immediate demand from the affected students is for the university to conduct the pending examination, correct the disputed results and ensure that their admission to the next semester is not adversely affected.
The matter has now put the spotlight on PRSU’s examination and result-management system, with students and the college management seeking an early resolution to prevent further disruption to the academic careers of the affected students.
