Raipur, In a major step toward easing traffic congestion and ensuring smooth connectivity between Raipur Railway Station and Swami Vivekananda Airport, the state government has accelerated the construction of multiple flyovers across the city.
On the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister, Public Works and Urban Administration & Development Minister Arun Saw, the Public Works Department has approved ₹173 crore for the much-awaited flyover on G.E. Road. The new structure will stretch from Guru Tegbahadur Udyan to Netaji Subhash Chowk and Gurunanak Chowk in Telibandha.
The 1.5-km long, four-lane flyover (16.61 meters wide) is expected to bring major relief to city commuters. Once operational, it will significantly reduce traffic pressure at Shankar Nagar Chowk, Canal Road Crossing and Gurunanak Chowk. Commuters traveling from Nagar Ghadi Chowk to Telibandha Police Station will experience uninterrupted movement, while traffic from Nagar Ghadi Chowk will be able to turn left before Telibandha Chowk and directly access the Atal Expressway to the airport.
Along with this project, a flyover has been proposed at Fundhar Chowk on Atal Expressway. The state government has already approved the construction of another flyover to connect Fundhar Chowk to the VIP Road (Airport Road), and work is expected to begin soon.
Additionally, Arun Saw has instructed officials to include the proposal for a flyover at PTS Chowk in the budget for the upcoming financial year 2026-27.
With the completion of these flyovers, commuters will be able to travel from Raipur Railway Station to the airport with minimal traffic interruption, marking a major infrastructural upgrade for the capital city.
