Raigarh, April 21, 2026 — In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics, police in Raigarh have arrested three individuals and seized over 36 kilograms of cannabis as part of an ongoing anti-drug initiative known as “Operation Aaghaat.”
According to authorities, the joint operation was carried out by the Cyber Police Unit and Chakradhar Nagar Police Station under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh. Acting on a tip-off, officers set up a checkpoint near Bangursia Dhaba along a key roadway, where they intercepted a white car suspected of transporting illegal substances from Odisha into Raigarh.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police identified the occupants as Dol Narayan Sahu (27), Neelkamal Sao (24), and Ashish Kumar Singh (29), all residents of the Raigarh district. A search of the vehicle revealed two plastic sacks containing approximately 36.17 kilograms of cannabis, concealed for trafficking.
Authorities estimate the street value of the seized cannabis at around ₹350,000 (approximately $4,200 USD). In addition to the narcotics, officers confiscated the vehicle used in the operation—valued at roughly ₹1.2 million ($14,500 USD)—and a Vivo Y35 mobile phone. The total value of seized assets is estimated at ₹1.56 million (about $18,700 USD).
During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to sourcing cannabis from Odisha and distributing it in the Raigarh region. They also disclosed that profits from the illegal trade were shared among the three.
The accused have been charged under Sections 20(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have been remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation.
SSP Shashi Mohan Singh emphasized that the operation is part of a broader zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking in the district. “Raigarh Police remains committed to dismantling organized drug networks. Strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such illegal activities,” he said. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities, assuring that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
“Operation Aaghaat” has already led to multiple enforcement actions in recent days, signaling intensified efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
