Students from 17 states, one Union Territory, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti participate in the special celebration
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu celebrated Raksha Bandhan with school students from across the country at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday and urged them to extend the festival’s core values of love, care and protection to the environment.
Addressing the students, the President said Raksha Bandhan represents a bond of love that can be shared not only among family members and friends but also with nature and trees.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating environmental balance, President Murmu encouraged students to tie rakhis to trees and plants as a symbolic commitment to protecting nature and maintaining the ecological balance essential for life. Describing students as the future of the country, she emphasised that planting and caring for trees should become a lifelong responsibility.
122 Participants Join Special Celebration
A total of 122 participants, including 89 students and 32 teachers, took part in the special Raksha Bandhan celebration.
The participating students and teachers came from 17 states, one Union Territory, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). The delegation also included 13 Children with Special Needs (CwSN), making the event an inclusive celebration involving students from diverse backgrounds.
Students Visit PM Museum, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan
The visit was organised as part of an educational tour to the national capital. On August 27, 2026, the students visited the Prime Ministers’ Museum & Library as part of their itinerary.
Following the Raksha Bandhan programme at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the students also participated in guided tours of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan, giving them an opportunity to learn about India’s constitutional heritage, history, architecture and natural environment.
Visit to Buddhist Relics Exhibition
As part of their educational programme, the students will also visit the exhibition “The Light and the Lotus: Relics of Awakened One” at the Raipithora Cultural Complex. During the visit, they will have the opportunity to see the sacred relics of the Buddha displayed at the exhibition.
National Science Centre and War Memorial on August 29
The educational tour will conclude with visits to important national institutions and landmarks on August 29, 2026. The students are scheduled to visit the National Science Centre, National War Memorial and India Gate.
The special Raksha Bandhan celebration at Rashtrapati Bhavan combined the cultural significance of the festival with an important message on environmental responsibility, while also providing students with an opportunity to experience some of the country’s key institutions and heritage sites.
